At around 2:50pm on July 1, 2026, Oelwein Police responded to a single vehicle accident in the Dollar General parking lot.  The investigation revealed that a white 2016 Ford Focus, driven by Deanna Parker of Oelwein, struck a safety pole after their foot slipped from the brake and hit the accelerator while parking.  Initial estimates of damages were $2,500 to the vehicle driven by Parker and no reported damage to the safety pole.

On June 28, 2026, at 6:27pm, Oelwein Officers took a report of a vehicle being taken without the owner’s consent from a residence. At 6:45pm, Oelwein Officers located the vehicle and the subject driving. As a result, Mitchell Lee Wolford, 42, of Oelwein was arrested for Driving While License Under Suspension – Scheduled Infraction, Driving While License Barred – Aggravated Misdemeanor, and Operate Without Interlock Device – Simple Misdemeanor. This incident took place in the 300 block of 5th Street Southeast.

On June 24, 2026, at 5:04pm, Oelwein Officers responded to a report of a 2-vehicle accident in the 10 block of East Charles. As a result of the investigation, it was determined that a white Chevrolet Silverado, operated by Troy Richards, 63, of Oelwein, was traveling East bound when he struck a parked Red Dodge Durango, owned by Cindy Mahan, 55, of Oelwein. There was approximately $1,000 of damage to the Silverado and $10,000 dollars of damage to the Durango. As a result of the investigation, Richards was issued a citation of Failure to Maintain Control.

On June 23, 2026, at 5:27pm, Oelwein Officers conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of 4th St and 6th Ave Sw. As a result of the traffic stop, the driver, Izabelle Mina Hallett, 20, of Oelwein was arrested on a Buchanan County Warrant – Original charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance – 1st Offense. Additionally, the passenger, Conner Lee Rawlins, 21, of Oelwein was arrested on two Buchanan County Warrants. Warrant One Original Charge – Failure to Affix Drug Tax Stamp and Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd or Subsequent Offense. Warrant Two Original Charge – Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

At 8:38pm on June 19, 2026, Oelwein Police charged John Norman Klink, 39, of Oelwein, with violation of Oelwein City Code 19-22 - Dog Running at Large.  Klink was issued a citation and summons to court for the violation which originally occurred on June 10, 2026, in the 300 block of 4th St NW.

On June 15, 2026, at 5:47pm, Oelwein Officers arrested Jason Jerry Laurie, 46, of Oelwein. Laurie was arrested on a Fayette County Warrant for Probation Violation. This arrest took place in the 300 block of Lincoln Dr Ne.

On June 13, 2026, at 11:16pm, Oelwein Officers arrested Miguel Daniel Sanchez, 35, of Oelwein. Sanchez was arrested on charges of Assault – Simple Misdemeanor, Public Intoxication – Simple Misdemeanor, and Interference with Official Acts – Simple Misdemeanor. This arrest took place in the 600 block of North Frederick Ave after officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in the 900 block of 2nd Ave Northeast.

At 1:56pm on June 11, 2026, Oelwein Police responded to a two-vehicle accident in the Dollar Tree parking lot.  A blue 2006 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Eli Wayss, 19, of Oelwein, was backing out of a parking space when they struck the driver side of a gray 2013 Dodge Journey, driven by Jan Vandewalker, 66, of Oelwein.  Wayss was assigned fault for the accident, and initial estimates of damages were negligible damage to the vehicle driven by Wayss and $2,000 to the vehicle driven by Vandewalker.

At 2:25pm on June 11, 2026, Oelwein Police responded to reports of people fighting in the 500 block of 5th St NE, leading to the arrest of Tanner Jonathan-Leslie Guyer, 22, of Oelwein.  Guyer was charged with Disorderly Conduct (Fighting/Violent Behavior) - Simple Misdemeanor, and was issued a summons to court for the violation.

On June 9, 2026, at 11:04pm, Oelwein Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 200 block of 1st Ave Se. As a result of the traffic stop, Andrew Richard Johnson Jr, 31, of Oelwein was issued a summons into court for Driving While License Suspended. Additionally, Johnson received an Equipment Repair Order for a non-functioning headlight.

On June 7, 2026, Oelwein Police finished an investigation into a two-vehicle accident that occurred on June 6, 2026, at 1:25pm at the intersection of Eastline Rd and E Charles St.  A blue 2016 Honda Civic, driven by Amnda Jean Lafler, 46, of Cedar Rapids, struck the rear bumper of a blue 2011 Chrysler Town & Country, driven by Michael Allen Claggett, 68, of Jesup, who had stopped at the northbound stop sign on Eastline Rd to yield to cross traffic on E Charles St.  Lafler initially left the scene of the accident but was located and contacted by officers a short while later.  Due to Lafler leaving the scene, the only damages estimated were to the vehicle driven by Claggett, which were estimated at $2,000.  Lafler was assigned fault for the accident after admitting to rearending the other vehicle and leaving.

On June 7, 2026, Oelwein Police formally charged a 17-year-old male juvenile for an incident that occurred on May 25, 2026, where officers responded to the 300 block of 4th St SE and the 100 block of 7th Ave SE for multiple reports of doors damaged from being kicked in.  The juvenile was charged with two counts of 4th Degree Criminal Mischief - Serious Misdemeanor.  The guardians of the juvenile have been notified, and the matter has been referred to Juvenile Court.
