On Wednesday September 11, 2024, at approximately 9:45pm, Oelwein Officers arrested Tyler David Schmidt, 33, of Oelwein on a charge of Operating While Intoxicated – 2nd Offense. An Aggravated Misdemeanor. Schmidt was also cited for speeding. These charges are the result of a traffic stop in the 2000 block of Outer Road.
At approximately 10:45pm, Oelwein Officers also summoned to court Delvin Antonio Jackson Jr.,31, on a charge of Driving While License Suspended – Simple Misdemeanor. This charge is the result of a traffic stop in the 10 block of 7th St SE
On Sunday September 8th, 2024, at approximately 9:00 pm, Oelwein officers arrested Graig Thomas Bemiss, 45, of Oelwein. Bemiss was arrested on a Fayette County warrant for Failure to Appear on an original charge of OWI 3rd Offense. Bemiss was taken into custody without incident in the 100 block of West Charles.
At approximately 11:30 pm, Oelwein officers also arrested Christopher Robert Hurst, 43, of Davenport IA, on the following charges. Driving while License Revoked – Serious Misdemeanor and Violation of a No Contact/Protective Order – Contempt – Simple Misdemeanor. The charges stem from an incident in the 400 block of 13th Avenue NW.
At 4:39pm on September 6, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested Brandi Joanne Johnson, 28, of Oelwein. Johnson was arrested on a Buchanan County warrant for an original charge of Violation of Probation. This arrest was made in the 600 block of W Charles St.
At 6:46pm on September 5, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested Talin Carter Hall, 46, of Oelwein. Carter was charged with three counts of Indecent Exposure - Serious Misdemeanor and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia - Simple Misdemeanor. This arrest was made following reports of a male subject exposing his genitalia to several female victims in the 10 block of 1st Ave SE.
At 7:35pm on September 5, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested Louis Estrada Lara, 67, of Oelwein. Lara was charged with Public Intoxication - Simple Misdemeanor. This arrest was made following reports of disorderly conduct in the 10 block of W Charles St.
At 3:29am on September 6, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested five individuals. These arrests were made in the 400 block of 2nd Ave NE, following reports of loud music disturbing the neighborhood. Upon arrival Oelwein Police observed the odor of Marijuana, and after obtaining a search warrant officers seized controlled substances leading to the arrests. The Oelwein Police Department was assisted by the Fayette County Sheriff's Office.

On September 4th, 2024, at approximately 2:50 pm, Oelwein officers arrest Jayden Michael Heidt, 22, of Oelwein on two charges of Assault – Simple Misdemeanor. Heidt was also charged with Criminal Mischief in the 5th Degree – Simple Misdemeanor. The charges stem from an incident in the 900 block of 2nd Avenue N.E.
At approximately 11:06 pm, Oelwein officers also arrested Nichole Ann Doty, 24, of Oelwein for Violation of No Contact/Protective Order- Contempt – Simple Misdemeanor. Oelwein Officers also arrested Tyler Dean Gamble, 29, of Oelwein for Violation of No Contact/Protective Order- Contempt – Simple Misdemeanor. These arrests were made following a traffic stop in the 10 block of 5th Street S.E.
At 2:00pm on August 27, 2024, Oelwein Police formally charged Rogenea Ann Torres, 58, of Oelwein, with two counts of Theft 5th Degree - Simple Misdemeanor. Torres was given a Summons to Appear following an investigation into a reported theft that occurred on August 18, 2024 in the 10 block of 1st Ave SE.
At 9:55am on August 28, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested Patrick Brian Genco, 60, of Aberdeen, SD. Genco was charged with Theft 1st Degree - Class C Felony, Burglary 2nd Degree - Class C Felony, and Interference with Official Acts - Simple Misdemeanor. This arrest was made following Oelwein Police locating a stolen vehicle in the 400 block of E Charles St.
At 2:41pm on August 28, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested Jena Beth Mclaury, 31, of Cedar Rapids. Mclaury was charged with Theft 3rd Degree - Aggravated Misdemeanor. This arrest was made following an investigation into a reported theft that occurred on August 23, 2024 in the 1300 block of Industrial Park Rd.
On August 28, 2024, Oelwein Police levied an additional charge on Adam James Nielsen, 39, of Oelwein. Nielsen was charged with Criminal Mischief 5th Degree - Simple Misdemeanor. This additional charge resulted from a follow-up investigation into the incident that occurred on August 26, 2024 in the 700 block of 1st Ave SE.
On August 25, 2024, Oelwein Officers arrested Adam James Nielsen, 39, of Oelwein on 3 Fayette County Warrants. Original charges are Failure to Appear on Probation Violation Theft – 2nd Degree and Failure to Appear on Violation of Truancy Mediation Agreement x’s 2. Nielsen was also charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance – Marijuana 1st offense – Serious Misdemeanor. Nielsen was taken into custody in the 700 block of 1st Avenue S.E. after an incident was reported to the Oelwein Police Department.
On August 24, 2024, at approximately 3:50p.m. Oelwein Police arrested Jenna Beth McLaury, 31, of Cedar Rapids on an active warrant for her arrest from Tama county on original charges of Assault on Peace Officers with injury x’s 2, Interference w Injury x’s 2, Operating While Intoxicated 2nd Offense and Driving While Barred. Oelwein Officers also charged McLaury with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Simple Misdemeanor, Possession of a Controlled Substance 2nd Offense – Aggravated Misdemeanor, Controlled Substance Violation – Class C Felony, Controlled Substance Violation, Class D Felony, Possession of a Controlled Substance 2nd Offense – Aggravated Misdemeanor and Possession of a Controlled Substance - Aggravated Misdemeanor, Oelwein Officers also arrested Kyle Lee Combs, 38, of Shellsburg. Combs was arrested for Driving while barred – Aggravated Misdemeanor, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Simple Misdemeanor, Possession of a Controlled Substance – 3rd or Subsequent Offense – Class D Felony, Possession of a Controlled Substance – 3rd or Subsequent Offense – Class D Felony, Possession of a Controlled Substance – 3rd or Subsequent Offense – Class D Felony, Controlled Substance Violation – Class D Felony, and Controlled Substance Violation – Class D Felony. These charges stem from a traffic stop in the 200 block of 1st Ave S.E.
On August 19, 2024, Oelwein Police formally charged a 17-year-old female juvenile with Theft 5th Degree - Simple Misdemeanor. This charge was made following an incident that occurred on August 10, 2024. The guardians of the juvenile have been notified and the matter has been referred to Juvenile Court.
At 12:18am on August 22, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested Stephanie Jean Love, 50, of Oelwein. Love was charged with Driving While License Suspended. Love was cited and released following a traffic stop in the 800 block of Rock Island Rd.
Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident in the 10 block of 20th St SE at 5:11pm on August 16, 2024. A 2006 Nissan Altima driven by Bailey Williams collided with a 2017 Ford Fusion driven by Rashell Amos. Initial estimates of damages were $100 to the vehicle driven by Williams and $3,000 to the vehicle driven by Amos.
At 7:55pm on August 17, 2024, Oelwein Police formally charged a 12-year-old male juvenile with False Reports to Public Safety Entities - Class D Felony. This charge was a result of an initial report of a juvenile messaging the Oelwein Police Department at around 4:00pm on August 17, 2024, where they claimed to have shot someone. An investigation revealed this to be a false report, and the juvenile was released to their guardians. This matter has been referred to Juvenile Court.
