February 19, 2025

On February 19, 2025, at approximately 7:45am, Oelwein police arrested Ryan Nicholas Gould, 30, of Oelwein on an active Winneshiek County Warrant for Identity Theft under $1,500. Gould was arrested in the Oelwein Police Department lobby after turning himself in.

 

At approximately 3:03pm, Oelwein officers cited and released Leo D Tapia, 62, of Oelwein for violation of City Ordinance 19-4 – Dog At Large. This incident took place in the 200 block of 2nd St. N.W.

February 17, 2025

At 7:49pm on February 17, 2025, Oelwein Police charged Eric Lee Buehner, 49, of Oelwein with Illegal Disposal Upon Public Property.  Buehner was issued a citation for the offense following a report of illegal dumping at the community recycling bins in the 400 block of 7th Ave SW.

February 15, 2025

At 2:11pm on February 14, 2025, Oelwein Police charged a 16-year-old male juvenile with Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Offense - Serious Misdemeanor and Minor Using Tobacco/Vape Product.  The male juvenile was charged and released to guardians following a report of a student possessing vape devices at the high school.  This matter has been referred to Juvenile Court.

 

At 2:11pm on February 14, 2025, Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident in the 300 block of 7th Ave SE.  A black 2007 Buick Lucerne driven by a 16-year-old female juvenile collided with a silver 2022 Kia Sorento driven by a 17-year-old male juvenile.  Initial estimates of damages were $5,000 to each vehicle.  The female juvenile was cited for Failure to Obey Yield Sign.

 

At 4:14pm on February 14, 2025, Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident in the 10 block of W Charles St.  A black 2016 Jeep Patriot driven by Stephanie Assman collided with a maroon 2002 Dodge Dakota driven by a 16-year-old male juvenile.  Initial estimates of damages were $6,000 to the vehicle driven by Assman and $3.500 to the vehicle driven by the juvenile.  An illegally parked vehicle blocking a clear view of the intersection contributed to the accident.

 

At 5:07pm on February 15, 2025, Oelwein Police arrested Donald Lawrence Ohrt, 46, of Oelwein, and Christopher Austin-Tyler White, 28, of Oelwein.  Ohrt was charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury - Serious Misdemeanor and White was charged with Disorderly Conduct (Fighting/Violent Behavior) - Simple Misdemeanor.  These arrests were made following reports of a fight in the 500 block of 1st St SE.

February 11, 2025

At 6:54pm on February 11, 2025, Oelwein Police arrested Tyler Wayne Forney, 30, of Fayette.  Forney was charged with Driving While Barred - Aggravated Misdemeanor.  This arrest was made following a traffic stop in the 1200 block of S Frederick Ave.  In addition, Forney was cited for Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Liability, Fraudulent Use of Registration, and Operating a Non-registered Vehicle.

Release: Three Arrested After Saturday Night Search Warrant

 

     At approximately 8:58 p.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2025, the Oelwein Police Department executed a search warrant in the 500 block of 1st Street SE in Oelwein. During the course of the search warrant, illegal controlled substances were located and seized. The following subjects have been arrested and charged:

                                                       

  • Donald Lawrence Ohrt, 46, Oelwein:                                      

               Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana) 1st: Serious Misdemeanor

               Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: Simple Misdemeanor

                Interference with Official Acts: Simple Misdemeanor

 

  • Christopher Austin-Tyler White, 28, Oelwein:

                Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana) 1st: Serious Misdemeanor

 

  • Tonya Mary Pennington, 49, Oelwein:

                Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine) 1st: Serious Misdemeanor

                Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana) 1st: Serious Misdemeanor

                Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: Simple Misdemeanor

 

     The subjects were taken into custody and transported to the Fayette County Jail pending an initial appearance. Additional

charges are pending, and these cases are still under investigation.

 

 

February 8, 2025

On February 8, 2025, at approximately 12:44am, Oelwein officers arrested Jesus Abimael Hernandez, 32, of Rio Grande Texas. Hernandez was arrested on a Fayette County Warrant for original charge of Fifth Degree Theft. This arrest took place in the 2500 block of South Frederick.

 

At approximately 2:02pm Oelwein Officers cited and released Nicole Leanne Burgos, 31, of Oelwein for Driving While License Suspended. Burgos was also cited for Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Liability. These citations were issued following a traffic stop in the 700 block of 4th Avenue S.W.

February 7, 2025

At 11:46pm on February 6, 2025, Oelwein Police charged Dizney Marie Willenborg, 24, of Oelwein with Reckless Driving.  Willenborg was cited and given a court summons following a report of a hit and run accident in the 10 block of 5th St NW.  Willenborg was also given citations for Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Liability and Failure to Carry Registration.

 

At 10:54am on February 7, 2025, Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident in the 400 block of 8th Ave SE.  A white 2023 Chrysler Pacifica driven by Janice Vorwald collided with black 2016 Ford Taurus driven by Ashley Kisner.  Initial estimates of damages were $2,500 to the vehicle driven by Vorwald and $2,000 to the vehicle driven by Kisner.  Vorwald was issued a written warning for Careless Driving.

February 2, 2025

At 8:34pm on February 2, 2025, Oelwein Police arrested Timothy Devan Postel, 41, of Quasqueton.  Postel was arrested on five Fayette County warrants for original charges of Eluding - Class C Felony, Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Offense - Class D Felony, Interference with Official Acts - Simple Misdemeanor, Reckless Driving, Driving While Suspended, and Failure to Maintain Control.  This arrest was made in the 800 block of 1st Ave SE.

February 1, 2025

At 10:39pm on January 30, 2025, Oelwein Police charged Tonya Auzetta Stewart, 18, of Oelwein with Driving While Revoked.  Stewart was cited and given a summons to court following a traffic stop in the 2200 block of S Frederick Ave.

 

At 12:58am on January 31, 2025, Oelwein Police charged Justin Kyle Greene, 31, of Oelwein with Driving While Suspended.  Greene was cited and given a summons to court following a traffic stop in the 200 block of 1st Ave SE.

 

At 12:38pm on January 31, 2025, Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of 1st Ave SE and 2nd St SE.  A black 2012 Chevrolet Sonic driven by Oscar Hicks collided with a silver 2008 Nissan Altima driven by Anthony Newton.  Initial estimates of damages were $3,000 to each vehicle.  Hicks acknowledged being at fault and was cited with a warning for Improper Lane Change.

 

At 1:03am on February 1, 2025, Oelwein Police arrested Brian Lynn Rhines, 43, of Oelwein.  Rhines was arrested on a Buchanan County warrant for original charges of Ongoing Criminal Conduct (Facilitate Criminal Network) - Class B Felony and 3rd Degree Theft - Aggravated Misdemeanor.  This arrest was made in the 300 block of 4.5 St SW.

January 30, 2025

At 11:28am on January 30, 2025, Oelwein Police charged a 15-year-old male juvenile with Minor Using Tobacco/Vape Device - 2nd Offense.  The juvenile was cited and released to guardians following a report of a student possessing a vape device at Oelwein High School.  This matter has been referred to Juvenile Court.

 

At 3:43pm on January 30, 2025, Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Rock Island Rd and 14th St SE.  A red 1998 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Brady Denny collided with a blue 2012 Honda Civic driven by Jacob Wyant.  Initial estimates of damages were $2,500 to the vehicle driven by Denny and $4,000 to the vehicle driven by Wyant.  Denny was cited for Failure to Yield Upon Making a Left Turn.
