At 7:17pm on December 22, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested Shauna Jean Snyder, 35, of Fairbank. Snyder was arrested on two Fayette County warrants for original charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance 2nd Offense - Aggravated Misdemeanor and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia - Simple Misdemeanor. This arrest was made in the Oelwein Police Department lobby after Snyder turned themself in on these warrants.
At 12:38am on December 21, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested Steven Jacob Beach, 49, of Oelwein. Beach was charged with Control of a Firearm by Convicted Felon - Class D Felony. This arrest was made in the 100 block of 3rd Ave SE, after firearms were discovered in Beach's residence during a response to a separate incident reported at the residence.
On December 20, 2024, at approximately 2:00pm, Oelwein Officers investigated a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of 1st Avenue and 7th Street N.E. A blue 2006 Kia Sedona, driven by Lynnette Lynn Cartwright of Oelwein, collided with a black 2001 GMC Denali, driven by Alexis Jordan Louise Heidt of Oelwein. Initial estimates of damages are $4,000 damage to the vehicle driven by Cartwright and $2,000 damage to the vehicle driven by Heidt. Cartwright was issued a citation for Failure to Obey Yield Sign.
At 12:40pm on December 18, 2024, Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of 3rd St SE and 7th Ave SE. A white 2007 Chevrolet Impala driven by Emma Smith collided with a blue 2019 Toyota Corolla driven by Dorsey Herman. Initial estimates of damages are $1,500 to the vehicle driven by Smith and $2,000 to the vehicle driven by Herman.
At 4:37pm on December 18, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested Amanda Marie Steggall, 43, of Oelwein. Steggall was charged with Driving While License Revoked - Serious Misdemeanor. This arrest was made following a traffic stop in the 200 block of 8th Ave SW.
On December 19, 2024, Oelwein Police investigated two motor vehicle accidents:
Officers responded to the first accident at 11:44am, at the intersection of Rock Island Rd and 7th St SE, where a red 2013 Ford Explorer driven by Beth Lloyd-Littrel collided with a black 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 driven by Jamie Recker. Initial estimates of damages are $2,000 to the vehicle driven by Lloyd-Littrel and $1,000 to the vehicle driven by Recker. Lloyd-Littrel was cited for Failure to Maintain Control and Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Liability.
Officers responded to the second accident at 12:36pm, in the 1 block of 1st Ave SE, where a silver 2010 GMC Acadia driven by Allan Musser collided with a white 2005 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Tony Barrett. Initial estimates of damages were $2000 to the vehicle driven by Barrett.

Release: Two Wednesday Evening Search Warrants Executed -- Arrests Made - Additional Charges Filed
At approximately 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, the Oelwein Police Department executed a search warrant in
the 100 block of 3rd Avenue SE in Oelwein. During the course of the search warrant, illegal controlled substances were located and seized. The following subjects have been arrested and charged:
1) Elizabeth Helen Gabriel, 38 of Oelwein

The subjects were taken into custody and transported to the Fayette County Jail pending an initial appearance. Additional charges are pending, and these cases are still under investigation. The Oelwein Police Department was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol.
At approximately 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, the Oelwein Police Department executed a search warrant in the 100 Block of South Frederick Avenue. At 6:00pm on December 14, 2024, Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of 1st Ave SE and 2nd St SE. A black 2011 Chevrolet Impala driven by Marianna Hardnett collided with a red 2009 Ford F150 driven by Jakob Swaney. Initial estimates of damages were $800 to the vehicle driven by Hardnett and $1,200 to the vehicle driven by Swaney. Hardnett was cited for Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Liability.
At 10:03am on December 17, 2024, Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of 1st Ave SE and 1st St SE. A silver 2017 Chevrolet Traverse driven by Nancy Maurer collided with a red 2009 Dodge Avenger driven by Malaki Wagenknecht. Initial estimates of damages were $2,000 to the vehicle driven by Maurer and $3,000 to the vehicle driven by Wagenknecht. Maurer was cited for Making an Unsafe Turn.
At 8:13 pm on December 17, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested Shawna Lee Warnke, 45, of Oelwein. Warnke was charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury - Serious Misdemeanor. This arrest was made in the 100 block of 4th Ave NE following a report of an assault.
At 9:01pm on December 13, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested Tanya Jo Taylor, 35, of Oelwein. Taylor was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury - Serious Misdemeanor. This arrest was made in the 100 block of 12th Ave NW following a report of a domestic disturbance.
On December 12, 2024, at approximately 9:45pm, Oelwein Officers arrested Jana Alexis Rhoades, 21, of Sumner IA. Rhoades was arrested on the following charges. Assault On Persons in Certain Occupations – Serious Misdemeanor, Assault Causing Bodily Injury or Mental Illness – Serious Misdemeanor, and Interference with Official Acts – Simple Misdemeanor. Rhoades was arrested as a result of a report altercation that was taking place in the 100 block of 5th Avenue N.E.
On December 11, 2024, at approximately 1:56pm, Oelwein officers arrested Lori Jo Garceau, 66, of Oelwein. Garceau was arrested on a charge of Criminal Mischief 5th Degree – Simple Misdemeanor. This arrest took place in the 400 block of 8th Street S.W. This arrest is the result of an ongoing incident that took place in the 400 block of 13th Avenue N.W.
At 11:50am on December 8, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested Joshua Allen Griffen, 39, of Oelwein. Griffin was charged with Child Endangerment - Aggravated Misdemeanor and Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Bodily Injury - Serious Misdemeanor. This arrest was made following a report of a domestic disturbance in the 400 block of 6th Ave SE.
At 11:37pm on December 8, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested Lloyd Wayne Scott Jr., 37, of Oelwein. Scott was charged with Violation of No Contact/Protective Order - Simple Misdemeanor. This arrest was made in the 700 block of 1st Ave SE.
