On January 17, 2024, Oelwein Officers arrested Isiah Dean Heidt, 27, of Oelwein on a Bremer County Warrant. This arrest took place in the 600 block of 4th St S.W. following a traffic stop.

At 9:23am on January 16, 2025, Oelwein Police investigated a report of a hit and run motor vehicle accident at the intersection of S Frederick Ave and 2nd St SE. Eyewitness testimony and video footage revealed a tan 2001 Buick LeSabre driven by Gregory Doyle collided with a white Ford E450 bus driven by Richard Simpson. Initial estimates of damages were $1,000 to the vehicle driven by Doyle and $2,000 to the vehicle driven by Simpson. Doyle was given two citations, one for Failure to Obey Stop Sign and Yield Right of Way and one for Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Liability.
At around 11:00am on January 16, 2025, Oelwein Police charged a 12-year-old male juvenile and a 16-year-old male juvenile each with Minor Using Tobacco/Vape Device - 1st offense. Both juveniles were given a citation for the violation following reports of minors in possession of a vape device in the Middle School and High School. Both juveniles were released to guardians and the matter has been referred to Juvenile Court.
At 1:06am on January 15, 2025, Oelwein Police arrested Billy Joe Spitzer, 52, of Oelwein. Spitzer was arrested on a Fayette County warrant for an original charge of 3rd Degree Burglary - Class D Felony. This arrest was made in the 100 block of 1st St SW.
On January 13th, 2025, Oelwein Police Officers arrested Christopher Austin-Tyler White, 28, of Oelwein and Hannah Leigh Wright, 26, of Oelwein. White was charged with Violation of No Contact/Protective Order-Contempt. Wright was Charged with Violation of No Contact/Protective Order-Contempt. Wright was also arrested on a Fayette County Warrant for original charge of Violation of No Contact/Protective Order-Contempt. These arrests took place in the 500 block of 1st St S.E. after a report of a possible Domestic Disturbance in progress.
At 9:06am on January 4, 2025, Oelwein Police arrested Jerome Robert Schuneman, 42, of Oelwein. Schuneman was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Impeding Air/Blood Flow - Aggravated Misdemeanor. This arrest was made following a report of a domestic disturbance in the 400 block of N Frederick Ave.
At 8:45pm on January 4, 2025, Oelwein Police arrested Cassidy Renay Towell, 24, of Oelwein. Towell was arrested on a Fayette County warrant for an original charge of Violation of Probation. This arrest was made in the Oelwein Police Department lobby after Towell turned themselves in on their warrant.
On January 3rd, 2025, at approximately 9:35am, Oelwein Officers arrested Denise Kay Munoz,48, of Oelwein. Munoz was arrested on a Fayette County warrant for Fifth Degree Theft. This arrest took place in the 200 block of 1st Avenue S.E.
At 1:49pm on December 30, 2024, Oelwein Police cited Lyle Joe Miller, 73, of Oelwein, with Illegal Disposal on Public Property. Miller was cited following a report of illegal dumping in the 400 block of 7th Ave SW.
At 10:27pm on December 31, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested Karen Marie Borman, 43, of Oelwein. Borman was arrested on a charge of Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury - Serious Misdemeanor. This arrest was made following a report of an assault that occurred in the 200 block of 1st Ave NW.
On December 28th, 2024, at approximately 5:55am, Oelwein Police arrested Daniel Warren Wrice, 61, of Oelwein. Wrice was arrested in the 200 block of 1st Avenue S.E. for Driving While License Barred – Aggravated Misdemeanor.
On December 29th, 2024, at approximately 4:00pm, Oelwein Police arrested John Joe Dison Jr, 43, of Atlanta Illinois. Dison was arrested in the 500 block of Rock Island Road on a Fayette County warrant – Failure to Appear on original charge of Domestic Abuse Assault – 2nd Offense.
On December 29th, 2024, at approximately 5:55pm, Oelwein Police investigated a Car Vs Deer Accident at 20th St S.E. and Rock Island Road. As a result of the investigation it was discovered Charles Matthew Wilson, 68, of Oelwein, was operating a 2015 Ford Ranger traveling northbound on Rock Island Road when a deer entered the roadway resulting in the collision. Approximately $5,000 of damage was reported to the vehicle driven by Wilson. Oelwein Police was assisted at the scene by MercyOne Ambulance and Midwest Collision Towing.
At 6:34am on December 27, 2024, Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of Rock Island Rd and 14th St SE. A yellow 2005 Ford Focus driven by Kevin Richards collided with a silver 2004 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Kayla Scribner. Initial estimates of damages are $4,000 to the vehicle driven by Richards and $3,000 to the vehicle driven by Scribner. Richards was issued a citation for Failure to Yield. Oelwein Police were assisted by MercyOne Ambulance Oelwein.
At 3:32pm on December 27, 2024, Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of West Charles St and S Frederick Ave. A gray 2011 GMC Sierra driven by Aden Yearous collided with a red 2018 Jeep Wrangler driven by Katherine Berry. Initial estimates of damages are $5,000 to the vehicle driven by Yearous and $2,000 to the vehicle driven by Berry.
At 8:54pm on December 27, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested Christopher Austin Tyler White, 28, of Oelwein. White was charged with Violation of No Contact/Protective Order - Simple Misdemeanor. This arrest was made following reports of a disturbance in the 100 block of 8th Ave NW.
At approximately 1:45 a.m., the Fayette County 911 Center received a report of a possible house fire in the 300 block of 3rd Ave SE. The report indicated that some of the occupants were not able to get out of the residence. Upon arrival, officers observed a fire inside the residence and located the occupants of the residence on the rear roof of the structure. Oelwein MercyOne members and Oelwein Fire Department members arrived and rescued the human occupants and one dog from the roof. The fire department was able to make entry into the residence and rescued another dog from the interior. Oelwein EMS then applied oxygen to this dog to assist with recovery from the extensive smoke inhalation. Unfortunately, a number of cats were not able to be rescued. The fire department was able to contain the fire to the kitchen area of the residence, which received extensive damage. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental at this time. The Hazleton Fire Department assisted the Oelwein departments with this call.
