On March 20, 2017 at 11:05 p.m., in the 100 block of 1st Avenue NW, Oelwein Officers arrested Jacob Howard Straw, age 34, of Independence on a Department of Correction's Services Warrant for Escape from a Correctional Residential Facility where he was being held on an original charge of Unauthorized Use of a Credit Card.
On March 19, 2017 at 6"35 p.m., Oelwein Officers responded to a reported disturbance in the first block of 6th Street NE in Oelwein. Officers arrested Mistie Marie Schmidt, age 28, and Sara Jane Kelley, age 29, both of Oelwein. Both were charged with Interference With Official Acts, Refusing to Assist Officers, and Harassment of a Public Official or Employee. All charges are Simple Misdemeanors.
On March 18, 2017 at 11:20 p.m., Oelwein Officers performed a traffic stop in the 10 block of 2nd Avenue SE in Oelwein. Officers cited and released Ryan Zachery Martin, age 35 of Oelwein for Driving While License Suspended.
At 12:30 a.m. on March 19, 2017, Oelwein Officers were called to the 100 block of South Frederick for a reported altercation. Officers arrested Richard Allen Fuller, age 46 of Westgate on charges of Public Intoxication and Disorderly Conduct, both Simple Misdemeanors.
At 7:43 p.m., on March 17 2017 Oelwein Police arrested Nathan Gabriel Kirby, 30, of Oelwein. Kirby was arrested on a Fayette County Warrant for Failure to Appear on an original charge of Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree. This arrest followed a traffic stop in the 900 block 3rd av ne.
At 12:51 a.m., on March 17, 2017 Oelwein Police arrested Timothy Michael Chisum, 27, of Waterloo. Chisum was arrested on a Black Hawk County Warrant for Controlled Substance Violation and Failure to Affix Drug Tax Stamp. Chisum was also charged with Driving while License Suspended-Simple Misdemeanor. This Arrest followed a traffic stop in the 10 block of 6th av sw.
At 12:30 p.m., on March 12, 2017 Oelwein Police arrested Jade L Nuehring, 34, of Oelwein. Nuehring was arrested and charged with Driving while License Barred- Aggravated Misdemeanor. This arrest followed a traffic stop in the 300 block 2nd st ne.
On March 8, 2017 at 2:11p.m., Oelwein Police arrested David Russell Watt, 44, of Oelwein. Watt was arrested on a Fayette County Warrant for an original charge of Assault. This arrest occurred after an officer’s interaction with the subject in the 100 block 1st av nw.
On March 8, 2017 at 8:36 p.m., Oelwein Police arrested Kenneth Allan Thornton, 48, of Oelwein. Thornton was arrested on a Fayette County Warrant for an original charge of Domestic Abuse Assault. Thornton was also charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance 2nd Offence- Aggravated Misdemeanor. This arrest occurred after an officer’s interaction with the subject in the 800 block E Charles.
Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident in the 600 block 1st av se. A 2002 Cadillac CTS driven by Parnell Williams collided with a parked Blue 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee owned by Jonathon Ray Miller Jr.

Oelwein Police – Building Inspector to Hold Informational Meetings:
The Oelwein Police Department and the Office of the Building Inspector will hold two informational meetings on March 15th. Both meetings will be held at the police department.
At 5:30 p.m., a meeting will be held with local landlords. The purpose of this short meeting will be to dicuss upcoming nuisance abatement efforts and the procedures that will be followed. Landlords will be provided a background on the previous efforts and will be informed on how rental properties may be impacted in the future. The goal of the meeting will be education and requesting cooperation.
At 7:00 p.m., a meeting will be held for building/electrical/plumbing contractors that perform work in Oelwein. This meeting is open to citizens as well. The purpose of this meeting will be to demonstrate and educate attendees on the new online building permit process that will begin on April 3, 2017.
On March 1, 2017 at 9:15 a.m., Oelwein Officers responded to a reported dispute in the 100 block 4th Avenue SW. Officers arrested Adam John Green, age 29 of Oelwein on charges of Assault and Domestic Abuse Assault, both Simple Misdemeanors.
