On August 6, 2025, at approximately 10:30am, Oelwein Officers arrested Domanick Ray Fowlkes, 32, of Oelwein. Fowlkes was arrested on a Polk County Warrant for original charges of Child Endangerment and Domestic Assault. This arrest took place in the 1500 block of South Frederick.
At approximately 12:25pm, Oelwein officers arrested a 14-year-old male juvenile in the 600 block of 2nd St NE. The Subject was charged with Domestic Assault causing Bodily Injury – Serious Misdemeanor, Disorderly Conduct – Simple Misdemeanor, and Interference with Official Acts – Simple Misdemeanor.
At Approximately 7:25pm, Oelwein Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 700 block of 4th St SW. As a result, Athene Rene Darland, 41, of Chelsea Iowa was arrested for Theft 2nd Degree – Class D Felony as the vehicle she was driving returned on a stolen status.
At 3:31pm on August 3, 2025, Oelwein Police arrested Christopher Austin-Tyler White, 29, of Waterloo. White was arrested on two Fayette County warrants. One for Failure to Appear on an original charge of Domestic Abuse Assault Impeding Blood/Air Flow - Aggravated Misdemeanor, and the second for Failure to Appear on an original charge of Disorderly Conduct - Simple Misdemeanor. This arrest was made in the 200 block of S Frederick Ave.
At 1:49pm on August 1, 2025, Oelwein Police charged Raymond John Greathead, 69, of Oelwein, with Trespassing 1st Offense - Simple Misdemeanor. Greathead was issued a summons to court for the offense following a report of a disturbance in the 100 block of 7th Ave SW.
At 7:10pm on August 1st, 2025, Oelwein Police charged two persons following an investigation into a theft in the 1000 block of Industrial Park Road that was reported on July 26, 2025. Nevaeh Jean Louise Jackson, 19, of Oelwein and a 15-year-old male juvenile were each charged with 5th Degree Theft - Simple Misdemeanor. Jackson was issued a summons to court, and the juvenile was referred to Juvenile Court.
At 3:43pm on August 2, 2025, Oelwein Police arrested Chester Michael Jones, 45, of Oelwein. Jones was charged with Violation of No Contact Order - Simple Misdemeanor. This arrest was made in the 700 block of 2nd Ave NE following reports of the violation.
At 3:29am on July 31, 2025, Oelwein Police arrested Kistler Earl Pritchett, 30, of Sumner. Pritchett was charged with Disorderly Conduct - Simple Misdemeanor. This arrest was made following a report of a disturbance in the 100 block of 5th Ave NE.
At 1:26pm on July 30, 2025, Oelwein Police arrested Scott Lee Bennington, 60, of Oelwein. Bennington was arrested on a Fayette County warrant for an original charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Offense - Serious Misdemeanor. This arrest was made following a traffic stop in the 100 block of 1st Ave NE.
At 1:47pm on July 30, 2025, Oelwein Police arrested Levi James Nielsen, 44, of Hazleton. Nielsen was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine) - Serious Misdemeanor. This arrest was made following a traffic stop in the 1 block of E Charles St.
At 1:52pm on July 30, 2025, Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of 1st Ave SE and 1st St SE. A blue 2010 Ford Escape driven by a 16-year-old female juvenile sideswiped a maroon 2016 Buick Encore driven by Courtney Jensen. The contact occurred when the juvenile attempted to make a right turn from the left lane, colliding with Jensen's vehicle in the right lane. Initial estimates of damages were $4,000 to the vehicle driven by the juvenile and $6,000 to the vehicle driven by Jensen. The juvenile was issued a citation for Turning at Intersection Violation and Jensen was issued a citation for Failure to Maintain Registration Plate.
At 2:40pm on July 30, 2025, Oelwein Police charged Rick Alan Butterfield, 53, of Oelwein, with Driving While License Suspended. Butterfield was issued a citation and a summons to court for the infraction following a traffic stop in the 10 block of 10th St SW. Butterfield was also issued citations for Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Liability and Failure to Carry Registration Card.
At 6:34pm on July 29, 2025, Oelwein Police arrested Justin Michael Fauser, 33, of Oelwein. Fauser was arrested on a Fayette County warrant for Failure to Appear on an original charge of Violation of Probation. This arrest was made in the 400 block of 4th St NE.
At 11:38pm on July 29, 2025, Oelwein Police arrested Talin Carter Hall, 47, of Oelwein. Hall was arrested on a Fayette County warrant for Violation of Probation. This arrest was made in the 100 block of 1st Ave SE.

Release: Sunday Afternoon House Fire
At approximately 12:49 p.m. on July 27, 2025, Oelwein Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to a report of a house fire in the 300 blk 7th Ave SW. The caller reported the house was fully engulfed in flames at that time. The Oelwein Fire Department arrived on scene at 12:57 p.m. to observe the attached garage almost completely destroyed by fire and that the fire had spread to the interior of the residence.
Fire crews were on scene for nearly two hours. A family cat was rescued from inside the residence. The fire was determined
to be from a riding lawn mower that had been used and put away shortly before the fire was discovered.
"Once again our volunteer members and our great neighbors to the south and southwest worked tirelessly together to
prevent further loss to the neighborhood." stated Public Safety Chief Jeremy Logan. “Battling a house fire is never easy—but doing it in relentless heat and humidity takes extraordinary grit. Our volunteer firefighters stepped up without hesitation, pushing through brutal conditions to protect lives and property. Their selflessness and toughness remind us why they are the heart of this community.”
The Oelwein Police and Fire Departments were assisted by the fire departments from Hazleton and Fairbank, as well as the Iowa State Patrol, Fayette County Emergency Management, and Oelwein MercyOne Ambulance.
On July 26, 2025, at approximately 3:30pm, Oelwein Officers arrested Sarah Jayne Moore, 35, of Oelwein. Moore was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Simple Misdemeanor and Possession of a Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine – Serious Misdemeanor. This arrest took place in the 900 block of 1st St NW.
At 5:16pm on July 24, 2025, Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident in the Fareway parking lot. A 2011 Kia Sorento driven by Benjamin Bergman had backed into a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado driven by John Farmer. Initial estimates of damages were $1,500 to the vehicle driven by Bergman and $5,000 to the vehicle driven by Farmer. Bergman was assigned fault for the accident.
On July 23, 2025, at approximately 1:25am, Oelwein Officers arrested Desiree Anne Toffefson, 30, of Decorah and Zoe Terese Thibadeau, 29, of West Union. Toffefson was arrested on a Winneshiek County Warrant. Thibadeau was arrested on a State of Iowa Warrant and a Winneshiek County Warrant. These arrests took place in the 100 block of 5th Ave SE after a complaint of suspicious activity in the area.
