At 2:53pm on August 12, 2026, Oelwein Police arrested Kody Allen Letts, 35, of Winthrop, following an investigation into gas theft that occurred in the 100 block of N Frederick Ave on August 10, 2026.  Letts was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (3rd or Subsequent Offense) - Class D Felony, 3rd Degree Criminal Mischief - Aggravated Misdemeanor, 5th Degree Theft Against an Older Individual - Serious Misdemeanor, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia - Simple Misdemeanor.

On August 10, 2026, at 5:47pm, Oelwein Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 200 block of 1st Ave NE. As a result of this traffic stop, Reid Michael Kimball, 54, of Oelwein, was arrested on a Fayette County Warrant for original charge of Larceny from Building. Additionally, Kimball received Citations for No Valid Drivers License, Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Liability, and Fraudulent Use of Registration.

On August 9, 2026, at 12:53am, Oelwein Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 600 block of South Frederick. As a result of this stop, James Dylan Poole, 34, of Sumner IA, was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated – 1st Offense – Serious Misdemeanor, Possession of Controlled Substance – Marijuana – 1st Offense – Serious Misdemeanor, and Open Container – Driver – Scheduled Violation. Additionally, Poole received citations for Registration Violation, Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Liability and an Equipment Repair Order for License Plate Lamp.

At 12:55am, Oelwein Officers received a report of a subject causing a disturbance in the 400 block of North Frederick. As a result of the investigation, Domanick Ray Fowlkes, 33, of Oelwein, was arrested for Public Intoxication – Simple Misdemeanor. This investigation is still ongoing, and further charges may be filed.

At 1:54pm on August 6, 2026, Oelwein Police responded to a two-vehicle accident in the 200 block of W Charles St.  The investigation showed that a white 2016 Ford F150 driven by a 17-year-old male juvenile struck the side of a silver 2015 Chrysler Town and Country, driven by Rhonda Marie Williams, 59, of Oelwein.  The juvenile driver had failed to yield to traffic from their parallel parking space and pulled out alongside and then struck the passenger side of the vehicle driven by Williams, who was heading westbound on W Charles St.  Initial estimates of damages were $7,500 to the vehicle driven by Williams and $5,500 to the vehicle driven by the juvenile.  The juvenile was assigned fault for the accident and issued a citation for Unsafe Starting of a Stopped Vehicle.  No injuries were reported.  Oelwein Police were assisted by Midwest Towing and Collision and B&L Body Repair.

At 12:38am on August 7, 2026, Oelwein Police arrested Marcella Marie Rocha, 20, of Independence and Tony Terrell Stewart, 22, of Greenwood, MS.  Both individuals were charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance - Serious Misdemeanor and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia - Simple Misdemeanor.  These arrests were made following a traffic stop near the intersection of S Frederick Ave and Hwy 281.  Rocha was also issued an Equipment Repair Order for a defective license plate lamp.

At 11:28pm on August 2, 2026, Oelwein Police detained a 17-year-old male juvenile after responding to a single vehicle accident in the 100 block of E Charles St.  After an investigation it was found that the juvenile was driving while under the influence of alcohol, leading to the accident where upon turning eastbound onto E Charles St from 1st Ave SE, they failed to properly negotiate the turn and drove upon the sidewalk, striking and knocking over a streetlight owned by the City of Oelwein.  The vehicle suffered disabling damage, with estimated total damage of $4,000.  The estimated damage to the streetlight is $13,000.  There were no injuries reported.   The juvenile was charged with Operating While Intoxicated (1st Offense) - Serious Misdemeanor and was issued a citation for Failure to Maintain Control.  The juvenile was released to the custody of their guardians, and the matter has been referred to Juvenile Court.  Oelwein Police were assisted by Midwest Collision and Towing.

At 8:14pm on August 1, 2026, Oelwein Police arrested James Daniel Mull, 44, of Oelwein.  Mull was arrested on 20 Buchanan County warrants for original charges of two counts of Eluding (Speed 25 or More Over Limit) - Class D Felony, Driving While Barred - Aggravated Misdemeanor, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia - Simple Misdemeanor, and 16 additional driving offenses.  This arrest was made in the 100 block of 2nd Ave NW.

At 3:05am on July 30, 2026, Oelwein Police arrested Maxwell Rolon, 55, of Oelwein.  Rolon was arrested on an Iowa Department of Corrections warrant for an original charge of Violation of Parole.  This arrest was made in the 1300 block of Industrial Park Road.

At 1:47am on July 29, 2026, Oelwein Police arrested Cameron Jon Wilson, 31, of Oelwein.  Wilson was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault 3rd or Subsequent Offense - Class D Felony.  This arrest was made in the 200 block of 3rd Ave SE after officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.

At 5:08pm on July 29, 2026, Oelwein Police formally charged two juveniles, a 13-year-old male and a 16-year-old male, with 5th Degree Criminal Mischief - Simple Misdemeanor.  These charges follow an investigation into damages caused to the Williams Wellness Center on July 22, 2026.  The guardians of the juveniles have been notified of the charges, and the matter has been referred to Juvenile Court.

At 10:58pm on July 29, 2026, Oelwein Police arrested Camron James McNeese, 21, of Independence.  McNeese was charged with Driving While Barred - Aggravated Misdemeanor, following a traffic stop in the 100 block of 1st Ave SW.

At 12:26pm on July 28, 2026, Oelwein Police arrested Cyle Bruce Moser, 57, of Oelwein, on two Clayton County warrants.  The first warrant was on original charges of Operating While Intoxicated (1st Offense) - Serious Misdemeanor and Unlawful Possession of a Prescription Drug - Serious Misdemeanor.  The second warrant was on an original charge of Failure to Appear for Contempt Hearing.  This arrest was made in the 10 block of 1st St SW.

At 5:29pm on July 28, 2026, Oelwein Police arrested Cheryl Ann Stroud, 60, of Oelwein, following a traffic stop near the intersection of Hwy 281 and Hwy 150.  Stroud was arrested on a Fayette County warrant for an original charge of Violation of Probation.
