At 10:35pm on August 29, 2026, Oelwein Police arrested Francis David Kline, 54, of Oelwein, following a brief vehicle pursuit after Kline refused to stop for an officer initiating a traffic stop in the 700 block of E Charles St. Kline attempted to elude officers for several minutes by turning off his vehicle's lights and speeding down residential streets, before he was stopped near the intersection of 5th St NE and 8th Ave NE. Kline was charged with Eluding (Second Violation) - Aggravated Misdemeanor and was issued citations for Driving on Wrong Side of Highway, Failure to use Headlamps when Required, Failure to Obey Traffic Control Device (two counts), and Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Liability.
At 12:36am on August 27, 2026, Oelwein Police made a successful stop on a vehicle that was attempting to elude Buchanan County Sheriff's Deputies during a high-speed chase. The vehicle was stopped in the 300 block of S Frederick Ave with the two occupants being detained. The driver, Ricky Patrick McKeeman, 20, of Oelwein, was arrested and charged with Reckless Driving by Oelwein Police. Additional charges are pending from the Buchanan County Sheriff's Office. The passenger, Mercedes Skye Herreid, 18, of Prairie du Chien, WI, was charged and issued a summons to court for Possession of Alcohol Under Legal Age - Simple Misdemeanor and Underage Use of Tobacco/Vape Product.
On August 25, 2026, Oelwein Police formally charged a 14-year-old male juvenile with Assault - Simple Misdemeanor. This charge was filed after completion of an investigation by Oelwein Police and Health and Human Services of an incident that occurred on July 31, 2026. The guardians of the juvenile have been notified, and the matter has been referred to Juvenile Court.
At 1:18am on August 25, 2026, Oelwein Police arrested Pamela Jean Haun, 68, of Oelwein. Haun was arrested on a Fayette County warrant for Failure to Appear on original charges of two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance - Serious Misdemeanor. This arrest was made in the 1200 block of South Frederick.
At 7:20pm on August 25, 2026, Oelwein Police arrested Michelle Ruth Williams, 52, of Oelwein, after responding to an active domestic disturbance in the 1600 block of S Frederick Ave. Williams was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Bodily Injury - Serious Misdemeanor, Possession of a Controlled Substance - Serious Misdemeanor, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia - Simple Misdemeanor.
On August 23, 2026, at 10:44pm, Oelwein Officers responded to and investigated a minor two car accident at the intersection of 1st Avenue and East Charles. A red Chevy 1500, driven by Pamela Bell, was traveling Northbound in the inside lane. Bell attempted to turn right into the outside lane, striking a Gray Kia Sportage, driven by Johnny Ketelsen. Bell was found to be at fault for the accident. Initial damage estimates are $3,000 dollars of damage to Bell’s vehicle and $4,000 of Damage to Ketelsen’s vehicle. No injuries were reported.
At 1:55am on August 20, 2026, Oelwein Police arrested Tony Terrell Stewart, 22, of Oelwein. Stewart was arrested on a Buchanan County warrant for Violation of Probation. This arrest was made in the 700 block of 1st St NW.
At 4:54pm on August 20, 2026, Oelwein Police responded to a two-vehicle accident in the 10 block of E Charles St. The investigation showed that a white 2015 Range Rover Evoque, driven by Richard Wright, 59, of Oelwein, was attempting to reverse out of a one-way alley when they struck the passenger side of a white 2013 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by Elizabeth Susan Schmidtke, 38, of Oelwein, who was travelling westbound on E Charles St. Initial estimates of damages were $2,000 to the vehicle driven by Wright and $6,000 to the vehicle driven by Schmidtke. There were no injuries reported. Wright was assigned fault for the accident and was issued a citation for Violating One-Way Traffic Designation.
On August 19, 2026, at approximately 8:50pm, Oelwein officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop in the 900 block of North Frederick. After a brief pursuit, the subject stopped near the intersection of 50th St and Palace Rd. As a result, Carl Joseph Hernandez, 54, of Oelwein was issued a summons into court for Drag Racing, a non-scheduled violation. Additionally, Hernandez received citations for Excessive Speed (16-20 MPH over Speed Limit), Excessive Speed (21 MPH and over), No Valid Driver’s License, and Failure to Yield to Emergency Vehicle.
At 4:40pm on August 17, 2026, Oelwein Police arrested Cyle Bruce Moser, 57, of Oelwein. Moser was arrested on a Clayton County warrant for Violation of Probation. This arrest was made in the 400 block of 7th Ave SW.
At 9:45pm on August 17, 2026, Oelwein Police arrested Abby Gail Kullen, 57, of Oelwein. Following a traffic stop in the 1300 block of S Frederick Ave, Kullen was charged with Operating While Under the Influence (1st Offense) - Serious Misdemeanor. Kullen was also issued a Written Warning for Driving on Wrong Side of Two Way Highway.
At 10:57pm on August 16, 2026, Oelwein Police charged Dallas Wade Shannon, 50, of Oelwein, with Driving While License Suspended - Misdemeanor. Shannon was issued a citation and summons to court for this infraction following a traffic stop in the 2600 block of S Frederick Ave. Shannon was also issued a Written Warning for Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Liability and an Equipment Repair Order for an insufficient number of headlights.
At 5:57pm on August 15, 2026, Oelwein Police arrested Michael Dean Westcott, 33, of Oelwein. Westcott was charged with Disorderly Conduct (Fighting/Violent Behavior) - Simple Misdemeanor, after officers came across an altercation in the 10 block of 4th St SW.
At 6:42pm on August 15, 2026, Oelwein Police arrested Stephanie Joan Gerike, 39, of Oelwein. Gerike was arrested on two Fayette County warrants for original charges of two counts Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd or Subsequent Offense - Class D Felony and one count Possession of Drug Paraphernalia - Simple Misdemeanor. This arrest was made in the 1300 block of S Frederick Ave.
At 6:30pm on August 13, 2026, Oelwein Police arrested Gary Roy Wright, 61, of Oelwein, following a traffic stop in the 800 block of S Frederick Ave. Wright was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana) 3rd or Subsequent Offense - Aggravated Misdemeanor and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia - Simple Misdemeanor.
