Oelwein Officer Chet Reagan with his son, Talon, helped unload all the donated items from the Arresting Hunger Food Drive in November 2014.
It took a full crew of volunteers almost a week to put away all the donated items at the Oelwein Community Kitchen Cupboard Food Pantry from the 2014 Zombie Parade and Arresting Hunger Food Drive. The two Oelwein Police Department sponsored events, held earlier this fall, took in 1,426 items and several cash donations. This was the second year the police department held the Zombie Parade in downtown Oelwein and the third year of the Arresting Hunger Food Drive project in the Fareway parking lot. Typically, the holiday season is a tough time for food banks. The goal of these two events are to help provide as many food and hygiene items as possible to the local food pantry so they can lend a helping hand to those in need during the holiday season.
The Oelwein Police Department would like to thank the Oelwein Community Kitchen Cupboard for their support, the volunteers that helped unload, to Fareway for hosting and for their generous donation and to all those who donated for making these events a huge success.
If you missed this opportunity to donate, you have another chance before the holiday season is over. This Friday, December 12th from 6-8PM and Saturday, December 13th from 4-7PM, the Oelwein Police Department will be sponsoring the “Just Play Food Drive” at the Williams Wellness Center. The open gym will be available for all ages and admission is 2 nonperishable food items per person. Basketball, volleyball and other games and contests will be available for everyone to enjoy. All items will be donated to the Oelwein Community Kitchen Cupboard.
