On August 8, 2014, at approximately 8:00 a.m., the Oelwein Police Department received a report of suspicious packages located in a railcar that was slated for repair.
Transco Railway reported that workers were performing maintenance on a railcar when they observed suspicious packages in it.
Investigators discovered numerous packages that were concealed in the wall of the railcar and determined that the packages contained marijuana.
Investigators seized 45 packages that totaled in weight of approximately 61 pounds and an approximate street value of $90,000.
“The investigation has led us to believe that Oelwein was not the intended final destination of this product. The railcar was diverted from its original intended destination due to needed repairs” states Chief Jeremy Logan. “We are appreciative of the Transco employees for assisting with ensuring that this product didn’t make it to the street and are proud to have such a good corporate citizen as Transco Railway”.
The Oelwein Police Department is working with other agencies to determine the source and destination of this shipment.
