On June 11, 2013 at 11:30 p.m., Oelwein Officers executed a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 10 block of 13th Avenue NW. Officers arrested Christopher James Jelinek, age 29 of Oelwein, on a charge of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Simple Misdemeanor.
On June 10, 2013 at 11:00 p.m., Oelwein Officers performed a routine traffic stop in the 10 block of 2nd Street SE in Oelwein. Officers arrested Levi Alan Parizek, age 18 of Rowley, on charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Marijuana, a Serious Misdemeanor and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Simple Misdemeanor.
On June 9, 2013 at 11:30 p.m., Oelwein Officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of 8th Ave NW in Oelwein and served an arrest warrant on Alexander Stephen Bell, age 21 of Oelwein. Bell was arrested on a Polk County warrant for impersonating a public official.
The Oelwein Police Department will be teaming up with area youth to “Camp with a Cop”. July 19th – 21st, Oelwein Wings Park and Sacred Heart students between the ages of 10 – 12 years old will have a chance to go camping with some of the Oelwein Police Department “Cops” at Oelwein City Park. The camp is designed for children who are or may be interested in law enforcement and who enjoy the outdoors. The camp will focus on team building and positive relations with police officers. There will be classroom type lessons, hands-on activities including a daily regimen of physical training for fun and other various activities. Demonstrations will also be given from the K-9 Police Unit, Oelwein PD Tactical Team, special investigations and Fire & EMS. The camp will strive to connect our youth, law enforcement and criminal justice system in a positive way with character building tools to deter juvenile crime and violence. The friendship and trust built through this structured camp will help teach our youth that they have a friend behind the badge.

The Oelwein Police Department will be hosting a Hunter Education class on Monday and Tuesday, July 15th & 16th at the Oelwein Fire Department. Hunter education is a mandatory program that is designed to introduce students to several life-long skills that are important to the many different types of outdoor recreational opportunities. The course teaches students basic survival and first aid skills, water safety, wildlife identification, and the basics of wildlife management, hunting laws, and firearm/archery safety. Hunter education also stresses the importance of individual responsibility and outdoor ethics. Iowa law requires that anyone born after January 1st, 1972 must be certified in hunter education before they are eligible to purchase an Iowa hunting license. A person who is 11 years old or older may enroll in this class. The class is free. Register online by going to www.oelweinpolice.org. After you register, you may pick-up your Hunter Safety Book at the Oelwein PD between July 1st – July 12th and have the chapter reviews completed before class. The 8th Annual Oelwein Public Safety Poker Run is set for Saturday, July 13th. Each year motorcycles, classic cars and trucks come together to go “Cruisin’ for St. Jude’s”. Money raised from the event is donated to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Cruisers will meet at the Oelwein Fire Department between 8 – 8:30AM and roll-out at 9AM. Travel all around NE Iowa, rain or shine, and end up back in Oelwein at Leo’s for door prizes. Oelwein Police are investigating the theft of an antenna taken off of a vehicle on the 500 block of 5th Ave SE.
On 06-08-13 Oelwein Police arrested Justin David Miller, 27 of Elgin. Miller was arrested on a Winneshiek County warrant for failure to serve jail time for an OWI charge and for failure to appear for a compliance review.
Oelwein Police were called to Kwik Star for a report of a motor vehicle hit and run. Follow up investigation resulted in the arrest of 21 year old Luke Kenneth Meyer of Oelwein. Meyer was consequently charged with: Leaving the scene of an accident –simple misdemeanor; open container in a motor vehicle – simple misdemeanor; and Operating while intoxicated – serious misdemeanor.
On June 5, 2013 at 9:42 pm Oelwein Police Department responded to a two vehicle collision on 5th Ave SE and 7th St SE in Oelwein. When officers arrived on the scene it was determined that Mariah Oksana Harp Schulmeister from Oelwein was operating a 2001 Chevrolet Impala which collided with Todd Joseph Huinker from Marion who was operating a 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe.
On June 5, 2013 at 8:32 p.m., Oelwein Officers were called to the 300 block of 6th Ave SE for a reported of a male driving intoxicated. After investigating the incident, Officers arrested Brian Lee Mallam, age 30 of Oelwein, on a charges Operating While Intoxicated or Drugged a Serious Misdemeanor and Child Endangerment an Aggravated Misdemeanor.
Oelwein Police are investigating a burglary complaint in the 100 block of 2nd Ave NW. Oelwein Police received a burglary complaint at 7:19 pm on June 5, 2013. This incident remains under investigation.
On June 5, 2013 at 3:20 p.m., Oelwein Officers were called to a business in the 10 block North Frederick Ave for a reported shoplifter. Officers arrested Daniel Eugene Parker, age 49, of Hazleton on a charge of Theft 5th Degree, a Simple Misdemeanor.
Oelwein Officers were responded to a report of a dog creating a disturbance in the 200 block of 3rd Street NW on June 5, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Officers cited Tiffany Ranae Engler, age 20, of Oelwein for Allowing a Canine to be at Large and Causing a Disturbance.
On June 4, 2013 at 11:35 p.m., Oelwein Officers responded to a residence in the 10 block of 2nd Avenue SE, for a report of a disturbance. Officers cited Lisa Anne Burgos, age 49 of Oelwein, on a charge of Disturbing the Peace, a Simple Misdemeanor.
On June 1, 2013 at 11:05 a.m., Oelwein Officers responded to a residence in the 600 block of 4th Avenue SW, for a reported domestic disturbance. Officers arrested John Michael Cain, age 49 of Oelwein, on a charge of Domestic Assault, a Simple Misdemeanor.
Oelwein Officers responded to a domestic disturbance in the 600 block of South Frederick, on June 1, 2013 at 7:55 p.m. Officers arrested Alan Leroy Knock, age 36, of Oelwein on a charge of Domestic Assault with Injury, a Serious Misdemeanor.
On June 2, 2013 at 12:05 a.m., after assisting the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office in an arrest, Oelwein Officers charged Sarah Jayne Moore, age 23, of Readlyn, on charges of Interference With Official Acts and Assault with Intent to Injure, both Simple Misdemeanors.
