On February 28, 2013 at 67:42 a.m., Oelwein Officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of 9th Ave SW in Oelwein and served an arrest warrant on Matthew Wade Stacey, age 19 of Oelwein. Stacey was arrest on a Fayette County Warrant for the original charge of fraudulent use of a credit card.
On February 27, 2013 at 11:05 p.m., Officers performed a routine traffic stop at the intersection of 1st St NE and 7th Ave NE on a vehicle that was speeding. Officers arrested the driver of the vehicle, Traeton Dean Wilharm, age 18, of Sumner on a charge of Driving While License Suspended and Open Container, Simple Misdemeanors, and OWI 1st a Serious Misdemeanor. A passenger in the vehicle Austin Allen Fitzpatrick, 19, of Cedar Falls was cited for Possession of Alcohol under Legal Age, a Simple Misdemeanor.
On February 27, 2013 at 7:42 p.m., Oelwein Officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of 3rd Ave NE in Oelwein and served an arrest warrant on Joshua Michael Bailey, age 20 of Oelwein. Bailey was arrest on a Fayette County Warrant for the original charge of Disorderly Conduct.
Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident at the corner of 1st Ave NE and 1st St NE at 10:55 am on February 26, 2013. A White 2004 Acura RSX driven by Kresa Elizabeth Seibert lost control and stuck a snow bank.
On February 24, 2013 at 11:05 p.m. Oelwein Officers stopped a vehicle in the 10 block of 7th Street SE in Oelwein. After receiving consent from the driver to search the vehicle, Officers arrested Theodore Roosevelt Lindsey, age 32, of Oelwein, on charges of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Simple Misdemeanor; Possession of Controlled Substance (Meth), Serious Misdemeanor; and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Class “D” Felony. Lindsey was also charged with offenses from a traffic stop in the early morning hours of February 24, 2013. Additional charges included Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Simple Misdemeanor and Unlawful Possession of Prescription Drugs, a Serious Misdemeanor.
On February 20, 2013 at 10:05 p.m., Officers performed a routine traffic stop in the 10 block of 5th Street NE on a vehicle with a faulty tail light. Officers arrested the driver of the vehicle, Benjamin John Campbell, age 28, of Hiawatha on a charge of Driving While License Barred, an Aggravated Misdemeanor.
On February 21, 2013 at 1:00 a.m., Oelwein Officers stopped a vehicle in the 400 block of 4th Street SW in Oelwein. The driver of the vehicle consented to a search of the vehicle and officers subsequently arrested Harley Dwayne Shuck, age 30, of Oelwein on charges of Possession of Methamphetamine, Serious Misdemeanor and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Simple Misdemeanor
On February 17, 2013, Oelwein Officers performed a routine traffic stop in the 10 block of 3rd St NW. Officers cited and released the driver of the vehicle, Justin Michael Fauser, age 20, of Oelwein, for Driving While License Suspended.
On 02-16-13, Oelwein police arrested Ann Marie Kisner, 21 of Sumner. Kisner was arrested for Driving While Barred. This charge is an aggravated misdemeanor.
At 11:12PM on Thursday, February 14th, 2013, an Oelwein police officer attempted to stop a vehicle for driving without headlamps in the 100 block of 3rd Ave SE. The vehicle, a maroon 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by Tyler Jason Fitzpatrick, 22 years old of Oelwein, failed to stop for the officer. A pursuit began and came to an end on Henley Avenue in Buchanan County. Travis Michael Owens, 21 years old of Oelwein, was a passenger in the vehicle and was arrested on a charge of Interference with Official Acts, a simple misdemeanor. Charges are still pending for Fitzpatrick. This incident remains under investigation. Oelwein police were assisted by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa State Patrol and Mercy Oelwein Ambulance.
Oelwein police investigated a motor vehicle accident on the corner of 13th Ave SW and 3rd St SW in Oelwein at 5:01PM on February 5th, 2013. Robin Jane Lehman of Oelwein was driving a silver 2003 Chevrolet Impala when she lost control and slid off the roadway. An initial estimate of damages to the vehicle was $1000. Lehman was cited with failure to have control of a vehicle, driving while license suspended and no proof of insurance.
Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident in the 10 blk of 1st Ave NE at 9:21 am on February 12, 2013. A White 2002 Mercury Sable driven by Michael Jefferson collided with a White 2012 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Joetta Lynn Solsma. Jefferson was cited with Failure to have a valid driver’s license and Solsma was cited with stop sign violation.
Oelwein Police are investigating a burglary complaint in the 10 blk 3rd Ave NW. Oelwein Police received a burglary complaint at 9:04 am on February 12, 2013. This incident remains under investigation.
Oelwein Police completed a tobacco compliance check on February 8, 2013 in Oelwein. Tyler James Greenley, 20, of Hazleton, Lori Jane Pirillo, 50, of Oelwein, and Kim Ann Annis, 57, of Oelwein were cited for Selling Tobacco to an underage female a Simple Misdemeanor.
Oelwein Police place this forfeited 2004 Ford F-150 into service.
The Oelwein Police Department, in July of 2012, investigated a theft to a business in the 300 block of 5th Avenue S.W. The investigation led to the arrests of Christopher Green, 40, from Atlantic, Iowa; and Ross Vandrimmelen, 29, of Newton, Iowa. Both subjects were charged with theft in the third degree and the case has since been disposed of through the courts. During the commission of the crime, a black 2004 Ford F-150 was used to transport the stolen property. The Oelwein Police Department and the Fayette County Attorney’s Office later filed for forfeiture of the vehicle. That forfeiture was recently granted.
“We have a need to replace an existing four wheel drive vehicle in our fleet and therefore we will place this vehicle into use as a police vehicle” stated Chief Jeremy Logan. “Our department often has the need for a truck to transport items related to our duties so this vehicle will compliment our fleet well. We have utilized other forfeited assets funds to add the white paint to the vehicle, decal and equip it. We have not utilized any tax payer funds to place this vehicle into our fleet. It has been completely funded by the use of funds seized from other persons involved in criminal activity.”
The Police Department anticipates placing the vehicle into service within the next couple of weeks.
On February 12, 2013 at 12:55 a.m., Oelwein Officers were called to a business in the 10 block of 1st Avenue SE in Oelwein for a suspected shoplifter. Officers arrested Brian Allen Fullhart, age 29, of Decorah, on charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine), a Class “D” Felony and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Simple Misdemeanor. Further charges may be pending. Mr. Fullhart was also detained on a Howard County warrant for Possession of Methamphetamine.
