On January 5, 2012 at 6:45 a.m., an Oelwein Officer responded to the area of South Frederick and 3rd Street SE for reported damage to a fire hydrant. It was reported that a semi truck had damaged the property, valued at $5,000.00. Officers located the truck, and the driver, James Luis Clyce, age 39, of Des Moines, was cited for striking a fixed object.
On January 7, 2012 at 12:05 a.m., Oelwein Officers were called to a business in the 10 block of South Frederick for a reported female starting a fire in the women’s restroom. Officers made contact with the female and arrested and charged Amber Marie Spece, age 21, of Independence, for Arson 1st Degree, a Class “B” Felony; Public Intoxication 3rd Offense, Aggravated Misdemeanor; Assault on a Peace Officer, Serious Misdemeanor; Criminal Michief, Serious Misdemeanor; and Interference with Official Acts, Simple Misdemeanor.
01-08-12: Oelwein Police arrested Jenna Rae Moser, 20 of Cedar Rapids, charging her with 1st Offense Operating While Intoxicated. This charge is a serious misdemeanor.
01-07-12: A noise complaint received at 11:30 PM, resulted in alcohol and drug charges being filed on numerous individuals in the 10 block of South Frederick. The following individuals were charged with possession of alcohol, all simple misdemeanors: Lee Cesario Griffith, 19 of Oelwein, Taalor Marie Tafolla, 18 of Oelwein, Andrew Michael Newell, 18 of Oelwein, Mason Charles Shannon, 15 of Oelwein, Alexis Ballentyne, 17 of Plymouth, Victor Giovanni Garcia, 17 of Oelwein, Ashley Ann Reson, 15 of Fayette. Charged with Possession of Marijuana, a serious misdemeanor was Cameron Jon Wilson, 16 of Oelwein. All minors were released to the custody of their parents.
On January 7th at approximately 6:00 am, 22 year old Jeremy Loucks struck a deer with his 1997 Mercury Mountaineer causing approximately five thousand dollars damage.
On January 11, 2012 at 1:35 a.m., Oelwein Officers executed a routine traffic stop in the 300 block of Hwy 150 South, in Oelwein. The driver of the vehicle, Joshua Allan Baker, age 30, of West Union, was arrested and charged with Driving While License Barred, an Aggravated Misdemeanor.
Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident in the 600 block of South Frederick Avenue on January 12, 2012 at 3:37 p.m. A white, 1998 Chrysler Town and Country driven by Nicole Pingree of Oelwein was rear-ended by a blue, 1994 Chevrolet Pickup, driven by Brian Arthur of Maynard. Initial estimates of damages were under $1,500. Arthur was cited for failure to maintain control of vehicle.
Oelwein Police are investigating an attempted burglary complaint. Oelwein Police received a report of an attempted burglary in the 10 block of 9th Ave SE at 2:49 a.m. on January 12, 2012. The burglary was interrupted by the property owner. The property owner was assaulted and received minor injuries. This incident remains under investigation.
On January 11, 2012 at 1:41 p.m., Oelwein Police arrested Robert John Sawyer Jr., 44, of Oelwein. Sawyer was arrested on a charge of Theft in the 5th Degree, a Simple Misdemeanor. The arrest was made in the 100 block of South Frederick Avenue in Oelwein.
Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident in the 500 block of 1st Street NE on January 13, 2012 at 10:24 p.m. A green, 1997 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Jerry Fortmann of Manchester, was headed westbound on 1st Street NE when he struck a purple 1970 Chevrolet truck. Initial estimate of damages were $1,200 to the 1970 Chevrolet truck. Fortmann was cited for leaving the scene of a traffic accident, failure to maintain control, failure to prove security against liability and striking an unattended vehicle.
On January 16, 2012 at 7:30 p.m., Oelwein Officers were called to the scene of a one vehicle accident in the 700 block of South Frederick Avenue. A vehicle, driven by Travis Patrick Berry, age 44, of Stanley, struck property at that location, injuring his passenger. Berry was arrested and charged with OWI 1st Offense, a Serious Misdemeanor, and was cited for Failure to Maintain Control.
Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident in the area of 1st Ave NE and East Charles St at 11:15 am on January 17, 2012. A Black 2001 Ford Ranger Pickup driven by Kenneth Keith Gage collided with a White 2000 Buick Regal driven by Larry Dale Alitz.
At 2:15 am on January 22, 2012 Oelwein Police arrested Jacob Jerome Daisy, 18, of Arlington. Daisy was arrested on the charges of Public Intoxication and Interference with Official Acts both Simple Misdemeanor. This arrest was made following a disturbance was reported in the 1200 blk South Frederick Ave.
At 1:02 am on January 22, 2012 Oelwein Police arrested Michael O’Hara, 25, of Oelwein. O’Hara was arrested on a charge of Public Intoxication a Simple Misdemeanor. This arrest was made following a disturbance was reported in the 100 blk South Frederick Ave.
At 8:25 pm on January 21, 2012 Oelwein Police arrested James Robert Pierce, 40, of Oelwein. Pierce was arrested on a charge of Possession of Marijuana 2nd Offense a Serious Misdemeanor. This arrest was made following a traffic stop in the area of 4th St SW.
Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident in the 10 blk West Charles St at 10:22 am on January 21, 2012. A 1995 Dodge Dakota Pickup driven by Frank Murray Odekirk collided with a 2003 Ford Focus driven by Angela Marie Nielsen.
On January 24, 2012 at 6:10 p.m., Oelwein Officers assisted the Monona Police Department and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office in the execution of a search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of 6th Avenue SE in Oelwein. Arrested in conjunction with the service of the warrant were two Oelwein residents. Kent Allen Taylor, age 49, was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia-Simple Misdemeanor, Possession of Marijuana 3rd Offense-Class “D” Felony, and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon-Class “D” Felony. Also arrested was Leslie Ray Kerns, age 27. Kerns was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia-Simple Misdemeanor, Possession of Methamphetamine 3rd Offense-Class “D” Felony, and Possession of Marijuana 3rd Offense-Class “D” Felony.
On January 25, 2012 at 10:20 p.m., Oelwein Officers observed a vehicle in the 100 block of South Frederick fail to make a complete stop at a stop sign. Officers executed a routine traffic stop at that time. As a result of the stop, officers arrested Robert James Mallam II, age 30 of Oelwein. Mallam was charged with OWI 1st Offense, a Serious Misdemeanor and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Simple Misdemeanor.
On January 28, 2012 at 8:05 p.m., Oelwein Officers performed a routine traffic stop in the 10 block of 8th Street NE in Oelwein. Subsequently, Officers arrested Robert James Mallam II, age 30, of Oelwein on a charge of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Simple Misdemeanor.
On January 29, 2012 at 9:45 p.m., Oelwein Officers were called to a residence in the 200 block of 1st Street SE in Oelwein in response to a report of a possible disturbance. Officers ultimately arrested Brett Lee Richardson, age 30, of Oelwein, on a charge of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Simple Misdemeanor.
On January 24, 2011 the Fayette County Sheriff”s Office executed two search warrants and arrested three individuals after completion of a three month joint investigation with Oelwein Police Department, West Union Police Department and Monona Police Department. Search warrants were executed at 201 West Elm St. West Union and 213 6th Ave. SE, Oelwein. Sheriff”s Deputies and Officers from all three department”s assisted in the search. Methamphetamine, Marijuana, Drug Paraphernalia, a firearm and cash were seized. Subject”s arrested: Kenneth Harold Taylor age 26 of West Union on charges of Ongoing Criminal Conduct (Class B Felony) Felon in possession of a firearm (Class D Felony) and Four Counts of Delivery of Marijuana each a (Class D Felony). Kent Allen Taylor age 49 of Oelwein on charges of Felon in possession of a firearm (Class D Felony) Possession of Marijuana 3rd Offense (Class D Felony) Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Simple Misdemeanor). Leslie Ray Kearns age 27 of Oelwein on charges of Possession of Methamphetamine 3rd. Offense ( Class D Felony) Possession of Marijuana 3rd. Offense (Class D Felony) Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Simple Misdemeanor). All three are currently being held in the Fayette County Jail awaiting an appearance before a magistrate.
