At approximately 6:59 a.m. on Tuesday, October 15th, the Oelwein Police Department received a 911 phone call of a possible shooting at an Oelwein residence. The incident was reported to be in the 100 block of 10th Avenue N.W.
Responding officers witnessed active gunfire from inside the residence and began to engage the occupants. At this time, officers observed a male subject, Myron Dewayne Meador, 44, exit the residence, detained him and provided medical treatment for his self-inflicted injuries. Mr. Meador was transported to Oelwein Mercy Hospital and later transferred to the University of Iowa Hospital.
Officers located, Niki Jolene Meador, 38, inside the residence and discovered that she had been shot multiple times. Mrs. Meador was provided medical attention and transported to Oelwein Mercy Hospital. Mrs. Meador was later transferred, by air ambulance, to the University of Iowa Hospital.
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Myron Dewayne Meador for the charge of Attempted Murder. Further charges are pending.
This investigation was a collaborative effort between the Oelwein Police Department, Fayette County Sheriff’s Department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
