Release: Area Burglary Investigation – Arrests Made
The Oelwein Police Department has made arrests related to a number of local burglaries with more charges anticipated in other jurisdictions.
Officers on patrol, near the 400 block of South Frederick, observed a suspicious vehicle and behavior from an individual. Upon investigation, the officer discovered items believed to be involved in a recent theft and burglary. Officers continued the investigation by questioning individuals and obtaining search warrants. This investigation led to the discovery of a large amount of stolen tools, clothing, wire, and various other items. Those items have been connected to local burglaries as well as several burglaries in surrounding communities and counties.
The investigation also led to the locating of a stolen vehicle from a residential neighborhood in Oelwein.
The Oelwein Police Department continues to work with area jurisdictions in reference to resolving burglaries in their areas.
The Oelwein Police Department has arrested and charged the following:
Virgil Patrick McGuire, 32 years old of Cedar Rapids
*Burg 3rd- D Felony
*Operating without vehicle owners consent- Aggravated mis
*Driving while license barred - Simple mis
Anthony Dean Nelson, 46 years old of Cedar Rapids
*Theft 3rd- Aggravated Misdemeanor
*Interference with official acts- Aggravated Misdemeanor
*Trespass- Simple Misdemeanor
*Carrying weapons (knife over 5 inches) Aggravated Misdemeanor
*Warrant from Linn County $50,000 bond for DWLB and Eluding
Jamie Leigh Fye, 22 years old of Kennett, Pennsylvania
*Possession controlled substance - Ser Misdemeanor
*Possession drug paraphernalia - Ser Misdemeanor
*Possession of Stolen Property - Ser Misdemeanor
*Operate vehicle without owner’s consent - Ser Misdemeanor
This investigation continues and more charges are pending.
On Sept 10, 2019 at 11:15 p.m., Oelwein Officers performed a traffic stop in the 10 block of West Charles. Officers arrested David Matthew Leyh, age 61 of Oelwein for a Bremer County Sheriff's Office warrant for Theft 5th Degree.
On September 8, 2019 at 6:06 p.m., Oelwein Police Officers responded to 10 block 2nd AV SW for a reported Criminal Mischief. This incident remains under investigation
On September 7, 2019 at 00:06 a.m., Oelwein Police Arrested Nathan Michael Williams, age 31, of Oelwein. Williams was arrested on a Buchanan County Warrant for an original charge of Driving while Suspended. This arrest resulted from an incident in the 100 block 1st AV SE
On September 6, 2019 at 11:45 p.m., Oelwein Officers performed in the 1000 block W Charles. Officers cited Charles William Evans, age 45 of Oelwein, for Driving While License Suspended.
On September 4, 2019 Oelwein Officers cited Brad Jame Maillie, age 45 of Oelwein, for Failure to Abate As Ordered, a property in the 1000 block 1st AV SE. This citation stemmed from abatement served in August 2019.
On September 4, 2019 at 7:56 a.m., Oelwein Police Officers responded to 100 block 1st ST SW for a reported Theft. This incident remains under investigation
On September 4, 2019 Oelwein Officers cited Randy Glenn Hummel, age 44 of Oelwein, for Failure to Abate as Ordered, a property in the 200 block 7th AV NE. This citation stemmed from abatement served in August 2019.
On August 30, 2019 at 10:00 a.m., Oelwein Police Arrested Donald Burdette Johll, age 53, of West Union. Johll was arrested and charged with Trespass-Simple Misdemeanor. This arrest resulted from an incident in the 900 block N Frederick
On September 2, 2019 at 1:45 a.m., Oelwein Officers checked on a suspicious vehicle parked at a business in the 400 block of South Frederick. Officers arrested Anthony Nelson Dean, age 46 of Cedar Rapids, on charges of Interference With Official Acts and Trespass, both Simple Misdemeanors, Carrying Weapons, Serious Misdemeanor, and Theft 3rd Degree, an Aggravated Misdemeanor. Dean was also served with a Linn County arrest warrant for Driving While License Barred and Eluding.
On August 30, 2019 at 1:33 p.m., Oelwein Officers performed a traffic stop at the intersection of 100 block 5th AV SE. Officers arrested Andrew Scott Lein, age 32 of Oelwein, for Driving While License Revoked.
On August 30, 2019 at 2:44 p.m., Oelwein Police Officers responded to 300 block 1st AV NE for a reported Criminal Mischief. This incident remains under investigation
On August 26, 2019 at 12:23 p.m., Oelwein Officers performed a traffic stop at the intersection of 800 block 2nd AV SE. Officers cited Andrew Porchia Thomas, age 48 of Hazleton, for Driving While License Suspended.
On August 29, 2019 at 4:05 p.m., Oelwein Police Officers responded to 500 block 1st AV NE for a reported Burglary. This incident remains under investigation
