August 15, 2014

On August 15, 2014 at 11:00 p.m., Oelwein Officers responded to a disturbance in the 600 block of 1st Avenue SW. Officers pulled over a vehicle that was believed to contain individuals involved in the disturbance, officers arrested Joseph Robert Hedgman, age 20, of Oelwein, on a charge of Driving While License Suspended, a Simple Misdemeanor. Hedgman was also cited for Failure to Provide Security Against Liability and Improper Rear Lamps.

On August 16, 2014 at 1:45 a.m., Oelwein Officers responded to a physical altercation in the 600 block of 1st Avenue NE in Oelwein. Officers arrested Jennifer Lynn Eickhoff, age 33, of Oelwein, on a charge of Domestic Abuse Assault, a Simple Misdemeanor.

AUGUST 15, 2014

At 8:33 p.m. on August 14th, 2014, in the 100 block of N. Frederick Ave, Oelwein police arrested Timothy Devan Postel, 30 years old, of Quasqueton. Postel was arrested on a Buchanan County warrant for an original charge of possession of pseudoephedrine with intent to manufacture.

August 12, 2014

On August 12, 2014 at 7:00 p.m., Oelwein Officers performed a traffic stop in the 100 block of 1st Ave SW. Officers arrested Dean Adelbert Stone II, age 37, of Oelwein on Interference with Official Acts an Aggravated Misdemeanor, OWI a Serious Misdemeanor, and Driving while License Suspended a Simple Misdemeanor.

Oelwein police are investigating a theft complaint. Police received a report of a theft at 11:38 a.m. on August 12, 2014 from the 700 block of 1st Ave SE. This incident remains under investigation.

 

August 9, 2014

At 12:13 am on August 9, 2014 Oelwein Police arrested Jeremy Daniel Conerd, 31, of Oelwein.  Conerd was arrested on two Fayette County Warrants and Possession of Controlled Substance Methamphetamine a Class D Felony in the 100 blk 5th St NW.

Marijuana Discovered In Railcar

On August 8, 2014, at approximately 8:00 a.m., the Oelwein Police Department received a report of suspicious packages located in a railcar that was slated for repair.

Transco Railway reported that workers were performing maintenance on a railcar when they observed suspicious packages in it.

Investigators discovered numerous packages that were concealed in the wall of the railcar and determined that the packages contained marijuana.

Investigators seized 45 packages that totaled in weight of approximately 61 pounds and an approximate street value of $90,000.

“The investigation has led us to believe that Oelwein was not the intended final destination of this product. The railcar was diverted from its original intended destination due to needed repairs” states Chief Jeremy Logan. “We are appreciative of the Transco employees for assisting with ensuring that this product didn’t make it to the street and are proud to have such a good corporate citizen as Transco Railway”.

The Oelwein Police Department is working with other agencies to determine the source and destination of this shipment.

August 7,2014

On August 8, 2014 at 1:31 a.m., Oelwein Officers performed a traffic stop in the area of 5th St SE and South Frederick Ave. Officers arrested Travis Frank Norton, age 20, of Strawberry Pt. on Driving while License Revoked a Serious Misdemeanor, Possession of Controlled Substance Marijuana an Aggravated Misdemeanor, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia a Simple Misdemeanor.

On August 7, 2014 at 5:54 p.m., Oelwein officers responded to a report of a disturbance in the area 1st Ave NW and 2nd St NW in Oelwein. Officers arrested Christopher Robert Kosin, age 34, of Oelwein on the charge of Assault causing Bodily Injury a Serious Misdemeanor.

On August 7, 2014 at 1:45 p.m., Oelwein Officers responded to a 2 vehicle property damage accident in the 10 block of 1st Ave SE. A 2008 Chrysler Sebring, driven by Mark Wayne Kleppe of Ossian collided with a 2nd vehicle, a 2002 Cadillac Escalade Luxur, driven by Dean Harold Benter of Oelwein. Benter was cited for Improper Lane Change.

 

Oelwein Public Safety Poker Run Raises Money For St. Jude's

Motorcycles and Odd Rods gathered in Oelwein on Saturday, July 19th for the 9th annual Oelwein Public Safety Poker Run. As they cruised throughout NE Iowa, not only did they enjoy the sights and stops along the way, but the satisfaction of knowing they were raising money to help save children. Oelwein Police Officer Brandon DeJong has organized the Oelwein Public Safety Poker Run for the last 9 years, raising money for the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. This year, the group raised $600 which will help continue the hospitals lifesaving mission of finding cures and saving children. Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live. August 5, 2014

On August 6, 2014 at 1:00 a.m., Oelwein Officers were called to an altercation in the 600 block of 1st Avenue SW in Oelwein. Officers arrested Aric James Quario, age 18 of Oelwein and Troy Lynn Petz, age 18, of Oelwein on charges of Criminal Mischief 5th Degree and Trespass, both Simple Misdemeanors.

August 4, 2014

At approximately midnight on August 3rd, Oelwein Communications received a report of people trespassing in a vacant home on 3rd St NW. Further investigation revealed the individuals to be 16 year old Caylyn Ann Marie Wallace of Waverly and 18 year old Troy Lynn Petz Jr. of Latimer.   Both individuals were charged with trespass which is a simple misdemeanor.

Oelwein Police received a report of a domestic abuse that occurred on August 3rd at approximately 11:00 pm.   Jesse Joe Vandekieft, 29 of Oelwein was arrested and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault. This is a simple misdemeanor

Katie Jane Waters, 29 of Oelwein was arrested on a Black Hawk County Warrant on August 3rd. The warrant was for Fourth Degree Theft. This charge is an aggravated misdemeanor.

On August 3rd at approximately 1:30 pm, Oelwein Police were called to the Dollar General store for a report of a shoplifter. Subsequently, Sara Jo Brandenburg, 21 of Oelwein was charged with 5th degree theft which is a simple misdemeanor.   Isiah Dean Heidt, 16 of Oelwein, will be referred to Juvenile Court Services. He is also charged with 5th degree theft.

 

August 3, 2014

The investigation into a report of a suspicious vehicle resulted in the arrest of Barbara Sue Shaffer on August 3rd. Shaffer, 44 of Oelwein, has been charged with Possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony, and Possession of paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.

On August 3rd, Oelwein Police cited Steven Otis Harvey, 44 of Oelwein with having an open container of alcohol while walking down a public street. This violation is a simple misdemeanor.

Oelwein Police were called to the 10 block of 5th Ave SE during the overnight hours of August 2nd, for a report of criminal mischief where a windshield of a vehicle was reportedly broken. Upon further investigation, it was found the report was false. Arthur Nelson Fish, 52 of Oelwein, was subsequently arrested and charged with False Report to Communications and Public Safety. This charge is a simple misdemeanor.

The Oelwein Police Dept. teamed up with the Iowa DNR and hosted a free Hunter Education class on July 15th & 16th, 2014 at the new Oelwein Police Dept. Hunter education is a mandatory program for anyone born after January 1, 1972 and is designed to introduce students to several life-long skills that are important to the many different types of outdoor recreational opportunities. The course teaches students basic survival and first aid skills, water safety, wildlife identification, and the basics of wildlife management, hunting laws, and firearm/archery safety.
