August 12, 2013

On August 11, 2013 at 3:45 a.m., Oelwein Officers performed a traffic stop in the 10 block of 1st Avenue SE in Oelwein. As a result, Officers cited and released both Mitchel Evan Tafolla, age 21 of Oelwein and Christopher Allen Vanlaningham, age 42, also of Oelwein on a charge of Open Container as a Passenger.

August 10, 2013

On August 10, 2013 at 2:00 a.m., Oelwein Officers were called to an assault in the 400 block of 13th Ave NW. Officers arrested Patricia Lynn Virgina Miles, age 29, of Oelwein, was subsequently arrested and charged with two counts of Robbery 1st Degree a Class B Felony.

On August 10, 2013 at 1:28 a.m., Oelwein Officers executed a traffic stop in the area 10th St SW and 6th Ave SW in Oelwein. Officers arrested the passengers, Jacob Ray Stepp, age 23, of Oelwein, and Brittany Kay McIntyre, age 20, of Oelwein.  Stepp was arrested on a charge of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia a Simple Misdemeanor and McIntyre was arrested on a charge of Possession of controlled Substance Marijuana a Serious Misdemeanor.

On August 10, 2013 at 12:09 a.m., Oelwein Officers executed a traffic stop in the 10 block of 5th St NW in Oelwein. Officers arrested the passenger, Cameron Jon Wilson, age 18, of Oelwein, on a charge of Possession of Prescription Drug, Possession of Controlled Substance Marijuana both Serious Misdemeanors and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia a Simple Misdemeanor.

On August 9, 2013 at 6:49 p.m., Oelwein Police were called to the area of 1st Ave NW and 2nd St NW for a male acting suspicious.  Jason Wayne Lafond, 33, of Oelwein, was subsequently arrested and charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia a Simple Misdemeanor and Carrying Weapons a Serious Misdemeanor.

Oelwein Police are investigating a criminal mischief complaint in the 600 block of North Frederick Ave. Oelwein Police received a criminal mischief complaint at 4:13 p.m. on August 9, 2013. This incident remains under investigation.

At 10:32 am on August 9, 2013 Kyle Dwayne Boleyn, 38, of Arlington turned himself in to the Oelwein Police Department on a Fayette County Warrant. Boleyn was arrested on a Fayette County warrant for the original charges of Eluding, speeding, and failure to stop at stop signs.

On August 9, 2013 at 9:47 a.m., Oelwein Police were called to the 1200 blk of South Frederick Ave for a female acting suspicious.  Irene Elaine Maffei, 52, of Oelwein, was subsequently arrested and charged with Public Intoxication an Aggravated Misdemeanor.

On August 8, 2013 at 2:10 p.m., Oelwein Police were called to a residence the 600 blk of North Frederick Ave for a disturbance.  Amber Charmaine Criqui, 24, of Oelwein, was subsequently arrested and charged with Harassment 3rd Degree and Disorderly Conduct both Simple Misdemeanors.

Oelwein Police are investigating a criminal mischief complaint in the 100 block of 8th Ave NE. Oelwein Police received a criminal mischief complaint at 9:02 a.m. on August 8, 2013. This incident remains under investigation.

August 8, 2013

On 07-28-13 Oelwein Police Communications received a report of a verbal altercation in the 200 block of 2nd Ave NW.  David Lee Allen Vanlaningham,  21 of Oelwein, was arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct, a simple misdemeanor.

On 07-27-13 Oelwein Police were called to Mercy Hospital in reference to an assault that had occurred previously in the day.  Roger Palmer Nichols, 43 of Oelwein was subsequently arrested and charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury, a serious misdemeanor.

While investigating the aforementioned assault, Max Evan Meharry Stone, 38 of Oelwein was found to be in possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.  Stone was arrested and charged with the serious and simple misdemeanors respectively.

Jacob David Snay, 19, of Oelwein was arrested on 07-20-13 on a Fayette County warrant for an original charge of Theft 3rd and  possession of drugs and paraphernalia.

On 07-07-13 during a routine traffic stop at approximately 2:00 am, Chad Thomas Cherrier, 18 of and Elijah Donovon Phillip Wright, 18, both of Oelwein were cited by Oelwein Police for possession of alcohol under the legal age.

On 07-06-13 Oelwein Police arrested Graig Thomas Bemiss, 34 of Oelwein on a Fayette County warrant.  The original warrant was for OWI and Driving While License Suspended.  He was later transported to the Fayette County Jail.

On 07-06-13 during a routine traffic stop, Oelwein police cited 15 year old Hannah Guyer with underage possession of tobacco.

On 06-08-13 at approximately 4:00 pm, Oelwein Police were called to the 100 block of 1st Street NE for a report of two males chasing one another around and fighting.  Brian Edward Otdoerfer, 28, of West Union  an Louis Alberto Pineda, 29 of Oelwein were later cited for disorderly conduct.

On June 7th at approximately 10:00 pm, Oelwein police arrested Emily Elizebeth Williams, 23 of Independence.  Williams was charged with possession of marijuana a serious misdemeanor and possession of paraphernalia a simple misdemeanor.

On July 23, 2013 at 2:05 p.m., Oelwein Officers responded to a call of a wanted person in the 1000 block of South Frederick Avenue. Officers arrested Stacy Michele Olmstead age 24, of Oelwein on charges out of Hardin County and local charges of Prescription Drug Violations, a Serious Misdemeanor.

On July 29, 2013 officers responded to a report of disturbed person in the 100 block of 7th Avenue SW. Officers arrested Charles Richard White, age 61 of Oelwein, on charges of Possession of Weapons by a Felon, a felony; Possession of Methamphetamine, a serious misdemeanor, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Simple Misdemeanor.

On August 8, 2013 Oelwein Officers cited Paul Edward Cox, age 53 of Oelwein, for Failure to Abate Property in the 800 block of South Frederick. This citation stems from original service of notice to abate on May 14, 2013.

On August 8, 2013 Oelwein Officers cited Robert Francis Gould age 56 of Oelwein, for failure to abate junk vehicles from a property in the 200 block of 11th Avenue SW. This citation stems from original service of notice to abate on May 14, 2013.

August 7, 2013

On June 6, 2013 at 3:15 p.m., Oelwein Officers were called to the 500 block of 4th St SW to assist the Oelwein Fire Department with an Illegal Burn. Officers arrested Michael Joseph Vargason, age 55, of Oelwein on charges of Interference With Official Acts and Illegal Burning, both Simple Misdemeanors.

Oelwein Officers performed a routine traffic stop on June 11, 2013 at 7:55 p.m., in the 300 block of 3rd Avenue NE. Officers cited Cameron Jon Wilson, age 18 and James Jack Riggs Dempsey, age 17 for Possession of Alcohol Under the Legal Age.

Oelwein Officers issued a citation to Steven Michael Johnson, age 26, of Rowley, on a charge of Open Container, a simple misdemeanor. The citation stemmed from a traffic stop in the 200 block of 10th Street SE at 5:30 p.m., on June 11, 2013.

On June 12, 2013 at 6:50 p.m., Oelwein Officers were called to a business in the 100 block of South Frederick for a shoplifter. Officers arrested Ashley Ann Reson, age 17 of Fayette on a charge of Theft 5th Degree, a simple misdemeanor.

Oelwein Officers responded to a report of a verbal dispute in the 500 block of West Charles, on June 12, 2013 at 2:55 a.m.. Officers arrested Matthew Allan Winter, age 24, of Oelwein on a charge of Public Intoxication-Open Container, a Simple Misdemeanor.

On July 8, 2013 at 4:40 p.m., Oelwein Officers responded to the 1000 block of South Frederick for a report of a person at that location who was wanted. Officers arrested Adam Dean Nichols, age 23 of Hazleton, on a Department of Corrections Warrant.

On July 8, 2013 at 4:35 a.m., Oelwein Officers arrested Roger Allen Kline, age 48, of Oelwein on charges of Violation of a Domestic No Contact Order, Criminal Mischief 5th Degree, and Harassment 3rd Degree, all Simple Misdemeanors. These charges stemmed from an incident occurring on July 6th, 2013.

On July 9, 2013 at 5:45 p.m., Oelwein Officers performed a routine traffic stop in the 500 block of 7th Street SW. As a result of this stop, Officers arrested Bruce Wayne Krum, age 42 of Independence, on a charge of Driving While License Suspended, a simple misdemeanor.

On July 10, 2013 at 11:45 a.m., Oelwein Officers cited Brad Maillie, age 39 of Oelwein on a charge of Failure to Abate-Junk Vehicle. The citation stemmed from service of an abatement notice on a property in the 200 block of Lincoln Drive, on April 10, 2013.

On July 24, 2013 at 11:30 p.m., Oelwein Officers performed a routine traffic stop in the 10 block of 8th Street SE in Oelwein. As a result of the stop, the passenger, Jessica Jean Sales, age 30, of Oelwein, on a Delaware County Warrant for an original charge of Failure to Appear for OWI 1st Offense.

August 6, 2013

On August 5, 2013; at approximately 7:22 p.m. the Oelwein Communications Center received a report of a subject that may harm himself and that person had a firearm.  Police responded to the 900 block of 1st Avenue NE to discover that the subject was in his residence where the firearm was located.  As a precaution, the Oelwein Police Department Special Response Team, assisted by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, secured the scene.  The situation ended without incident as the subject voluntarily came out of the residence.  The subject was taken into custody for evaluation purposes.

August 5, 2013 - Oelwein Police Seek Assistance in Locating Suspect

On August 5, 2013, at approximately 6:00 a.m.; Oelwein Police observed a white 1997 Buick LeSabre driving erratically.  Various traffic violations were observed and officers attempted to stop the vehicle near the 200 block of 3rd Ave NE. The vehicle failed to stop for law enforcement and attempted to elude officers at high speeds in the northeast residential areas of town. The vehicle came to a stop in the ditch, north of 6th Street NE on Outer Road.  The driver fled the vehicle, into the corn field, on foot.  The passenger was detained for questioning.  Officers from the Oelwein Police Department, the Oelwein Police K-9, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department and the Iowa State Patrol searched the corn field, for over an hour, but discontinued the search, for safety purposes; due to the inclement weather.

Oelwein Police are seeking assistance in locating the suspect in this matter.  Kyle Dwayne Boleyn, 38; of Arlington, is being sought on charges of Eluding Law Enforcement – Aggravated Misdemeanor, Speed 90 mph in a 35 mph speed zone, Speed 50 mph in a 25 mph speed zone and numerous other traffic violations. Anyone with knowledge of Mr. Boleyn’s whereabouts are encouraged to contact the Oelwein Police Department at 319-283-4311.

On August 4, 2013 at 12:31 p.m., Oelwein Officers executed a traffic stop in the 2300 block of South Frederick Ave. in Oelwein. Officers arrested Limmie Cassandra Carterman, age 26, of Fairbank, on a charges of Interference with Official Acts, an Aggravated Misdemeanor, and Criminal Mischief in the 5th Degree, a Simple Misdemeanors, as well as two Buchanan County Sheriff’s warrants and two Black Hawk County Sheriff’s warrants.

August 1, 2013 - Oelwein Youth Camp with a Cop a Success

On Friday, July 19th through Sunday July 21st, ten area youth had the opportunity to “Camp with a Cop” at Oelwein City Park.  The opportunity was opened up to youth ages 10 through 12.

Oelwein Police Officers spent the weekend teaching the youth various safety activities as well as team building activities.  The attendees performed several activities where they had to learn to work together to accomplish a goal.  The youth and officers canoed from Redgate Park to City Park, played flag football, set-up and tore down a camp site, pulled a gator around City Park and many more fun activities.

Attendees were also given safety presentations by the Oelwein Fire Department, the Oelwein Area Ambulance, the Oelwein Police Special Response Team and various other police staff instructors. Canoe safety, water safety, firearm safety and personal safety were some of the areas covered.  Campers were also given guidance on being a good citizen, respecting themselves and others as well as service towards your community. Campers stayed in tents during the event and meals were prepared on site.

“The purpose of this event is to allow our area youth to interact, in a positive setting, with police officers.  This allows them to break down any perceived barriers and makes them more comfortable approaching police officers.  It also allows us a friendly environment to instill life skills in today’s youth” stated Chief Jeremy Logan. “Each officer that participated truly enjoyed their time with the campers and are already formulating the plan for next years event”.

The youth learned about water safety.

Campers learned about teamwork as they started the weekend off with working together to build their camp site.

Participants were able to observe the Oelwein Police Department Special Response Team as they trained on team work and building entry.

Officers Jesse Paul, Bryce Bentley and Jay Perkins worked together to provide further instruction on gun safety. The guns utilized for this training are a gas propelled pellet gun that simulate a real firearm. These training devices were acquired through a Homeland Security grant.

Campers worked together to compete in a few friendly flag football games. Officers participated with each team.

Campers were able to enjoy some evening smores in their downtime.

July 27, 2013

On July 27, 2013 at approximately 12:04 a.m., Oelwein Police were called to a residence in the 600 block of West Charles for subjects fighting. Patricia Lynn Virgina Miles, 29, of Oelwein, was subsequently arrested and charged with Assault causing Bodily Injury a Serious Misdemeanor.

Oelwein Police are investigating a theft complaint in the 300 block of 6th Ave SE. Oelwein Police received a theft complaint at 6:16 p.m. on July 26 2013. This incident remains under investigation.

July 22, 2013

On July 22, 2013 at approximately 1:54 a.m., Oelwein Police were called to a residence in the 200 block of Lincoln Dr NE for a reported disturbance. Harley Dwayne Shuck, 30, of Oelwein, was subsequently arrested and charged with Robbery in the 1st Degree a Class B Felony, Going Armed with Intent a Class D Felony, Possession of Burglar’s Tools and Possession of Controlled Substance both Aggravated Misdemeanors & Possession of Drug Paraphernalia a Simple Misdemeanor.

Oelwein Police are investigating a criminal mischief complaint in the 300 block of North Frederick Ave. Oelwein Police received a criminal mischief complaint at 9:16 p.m. on July 21, 2013. This incident remains under investigation.
