On Friday, December 13th, 2013, the Oelwein Police Department, Oelwein Middle School and Sacred Heart honored all the 6th Graders during the Oelwein D.A.R.E. Graduation Ceremony. Oelwein D.A.R.E. Officer Brandon DeJong spent two weeks teaching the students about a variety of topics including safe and responsible decision making, managing stress, communicating effectively, bullying and the harm of using tobacco, alcohol and drugs. Marv Cook, former NFL and Iowa Hawkeye football player, gave a remarkable motivational speech to the students at the ceremony. Marv encouraged the students to go after their dreams and to take time to "pause" before making big decisions in their lives.

On December 12, 2013 at 2:05 a.m., Oelwein Officers stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of 2nd Avenue NW, in Oelwein. As a result of the stop, Officers arrested Matthew Scot Davis, age 35, of Dundee, for a Fayette County Sheriff’s Office warrant for original charges of Burglary 3rd Degree. Davis was transported to the Fayette County Jail.
On December 9, 2013 at 8:35 p.m., Oelwein Officers performed a traffic stop at the intersection of East Charles and First Street SE in Oelwein. Officers arrested Timothy Devan Postel, age 29 of Quasqueton on charges of Possession of Methamphetamine, a Class “D” Felony and Driving While License Suspended, a Simple Misdemeanor.
On December 7, 2013 at 3:03 p.m., Oelwein Police responded to a two vehicle property damage accident in the 10 block of 5th Ave SE. A tan 2003 Chevrolet van, owned by Jacob Cannon Shinn of Oelwein was struck by a White 2001 Dodge Truck, driven by Rocky Dean Millard of Oelwein.
Oelwein Police are investigating a burglary complaint in the 300 block of North Frederick Ave. Oelwein Police received a burglary complaint at 2:14 p.m. on December 7, 2013. This incident remains under investigation.
On December 6, 2013 at 1:30 p.m., Oelwein Officers responded to a business in the 2100 block of South Frederick Avenue in Oelwein for a reported theft. Officers arrested Jacob Westley Smith, age 18, of Oelwein on a charge of Theft 3rd Degree, an Aggravated Misdemeanor.
On December 6, 2013 at 8:55 p.m., Oelwein Officers performed a traffic stop in the 100 block of 10th Street SE in Oelwein. Officers cited and released Michael John McAllister, age 30, of Oelwein on a charge of Driving While License Suspended, a Simple Misdemeanor. McAllister was also cited for Failure to have Proof of Insurance, and Violation of License Restriction.
On December 3, 2013 at 1:25 p.m., Oelwein Officers performed a welfare check in the 600 block of 2nd Ave SW in Oelwein. Following the check of the subjects in the resident, officers cited Jeremy Alan Mortiz, 39, of Oelwein with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia a Simple Misdemeanor.
On December 2, 2013 at 5:20 p.m., Oelwein Officers stopped two juveniles in the 10 block of North Frederick in Oelwein. Officers cited Alexis Jorden Louise Heidt, age 14, for Possession of Tobacco Underage. A second juvenile was also cited in this incident.
Oelwein Police are investigating a criminal mischief complaint in the 400 block 3rd Ave NW. Oelwein Police received a criminal mischief complaint at 4:52 p.m. on November 28, 2013. This incident remains under investigation.
On November 28, 2013 at 9:54 a.m., Oelwein Officers performed a traffic stop in the 10th Block of South Frederick Ave in Oelwein. In the course of this stop, officers arrested Willie Lee Phillips, age 62, of Oelwein on a charge of Driving While License Barred, an Aggravated Misdemeanor.
On November 25, 2013 at 4:00 p.m., Oelwein Officers arrested Sterling James Medina, age 19, of Sumner on a Bremer County arrest warrant. Sterling’s original charges include four counts of animal abuse.
On November 26, 2013 at 4:45 a.m., Oelwein officers performed a traffic stop in the 200 block of 3rd Avenue NE in Oelwein. Subsequent to the stop, Officers arrested Travis Frank Norton age 19 of Strawberry Point on charges of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Interference with Official Acts, both Simple Misdemeanors and Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana), a Serious Misdemeanor.
On November 27, 2013 at 2:00 a.m., Oelwein Officer performed a traffic stop in the 10 block of 1st Avenue SE in Oelwein. Officers performed field sobriety testing on the driver and arrested Kaycie Nicole Edler, age 18 of Fairbank, on a charge of OWI 1st Offense, a Serious Misdemeanor. Officers also cited and released Makayla Jo Dixon, age 19, of Oelwein for Possession of Alcohol Under the Legal Age, a Simple Misdemeanor.
On November 19, 2013 at 9:19 p.m., Oelwein Officers responded to the 500 block of 1st Ave NW to locate a subject with a warrant. Officers arrested Zachery Michael Frazer, age 19 of Oelwein on a Possession of controlled substance – Marijuana an Aggravated Misdemeanor and on a Fayette County Warrant.
On November 19, 2013 at 1:07 p.m., Oelwein Officers responded to a disturbance in the 200 block of 8th Avenue SE in Oelwein. Officers located the subjects involved and arrested Kim Robin Tielebein, age 46 of Hazleton on a charge of Assault a Simple Misdemeanor and cited Melinda Ann Tielebein, age 42 of Stanley on the charge of Disorderly Conduct a Simple Misdemeanor.

On November 19, 2013 at midnight, Oelwein Officers responded to a disturbance in the 400 block of 1st Avenue NE in Oelwein. Officers located the subjects involved and arrested Bruce Lee Miller, age 19 of Oelwein on a charge of Public Intoxication, a Simple Misdemeanor.
