September 21, 2014

On September 20, 2014 at 8:30 p.m., after an investigation, Oelwein Police arrested Christopher Samuel James Brown-Cunningham, age 22, of Oelwein on a charge of Tattooing Permit Required, a Serious Misdemeanor.

On September 21, 2014 at 2:05 a.m., Oelwein officers performed a traffic stop in the 200 block of West Charles Street in Oelwein. Officers performed field sobriety testing on the scene and arrested the driver, Spiros Anthopoulos Jr, age 25, of Oelwein, on a charge of OWI 1st Offense, a Serious Misdemeanor.

Oelwein Officers, with the assistance of Fayette County Sheriff's Deputies, responded to a disturbance in the 100 block of 1st St NW in Oelwein, on September 21, 2014 at 5:10 a.m. Officers arrested Miguel Daniel Sanchez, age 24, of Oelwein, on charges of Enhanced Public Intoxication and Escape from Custody, both Serious Misdemeanors and Interference with Official Acts, a Simple Misdemeanor.

On September 21, 2014 at 7:30 p.m., Oelwein officers responded to a disturbance in the 500 block of South Frederick Avenue in Oelwein. Officers arrested James Melvin Rudolph, age 30, of Oelwein on charges of Disorderly Conduct, a Simple Misdemeanor; Domestic Abuse Assault, A Serious Misdemeanor; and Assaults on Persons in Certain Occupations, a Serious Misdemeanor.

Cemetery Vandalism Charges Filed

The Oelwein Police Department has filed charges with the Juvenile Court Services of the 1st Judicial District of Iowa on the following juveniles for Criminal Mischief Second Degree. These charges stem from criminal mischief (vandalism) done to the Oakdale Cemetery located in the 200 block of 4th Street SW that was reported on September 9, 2014.

Estimated damage to the grave stones is approximately $4,200.

“While we take all criminal mischief cases seriously, it is especially disheartening when damage is done to grave sites. Our officers, with the assistance of citizens, worked diligently to sort through this incident and bring it to a close” stated Chief Jeremy Logan.

Criminal Mischief in the second degree is a class D felony.

September 14, 2014

On September 14, 2014 at 10:37 p.m., Oelwein officers were called to a report of suspicious activity in the 100 block of 9th Ave SE in Oelwein. Officers arrested Nathan Burco Givant, age 18 of Oelwein, on charges of Unlawful Possession of Prescription Drug a Serious Misdemeanor and Joint Criminal Conduct an Aggravated Misdemeanor.

On September 14, 2014 at 9:32 a.m., after an investigation, Oelwein Officers referred to Juvenile Court Service Sara Lynn Hamblin, age 16, of Hazleton on Disorderly Conduct a Simple Misdemeanor.

 

Abel Quijas Jr. Taken Into Custody

The Iowa Department of Public Safety released this information this morning:

Oelwein Man Taken Into Custody

Officials have arrested 33-year-old Abel Quijas Jr. of Maynard, Iowa. Quijas Jr. was taken into custody without incident this morning, September 12, 2014.

Quijas was wanted for one count of Attempted Murder involving a Peace Officer in Oelwein on the afternoon of September, 11, 2014. 

No further information will be released at this time.

DCI, Oelwein Police Seeking Public's Help in Search for Man

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Oelwein Police Department are seeking the public's help in locating Abel Quijas Jr. of 145 7th Street North, in Maynard, Iowa.

Quijas is 33 years old and described as 5'8" tall and 185 pounds. Quijas is wanted for one count of Attempted Murder involving a Peace Officer in Oelwein on the afternoon of September 11th, 2014. Quijas was last seen on foot in the area of northeast Oelwein.

Anyone with information regarding Quijas' location is asked to contact the Oelwein Police Department at 319-283-4311.

At this time, the Oelwein Police Department has no information to believe the public is in any danger.

September 11, 2014

On September 10, 2014 at 8:32 p.m., after an investigation, Oelwein Officers arrested Kendell Kay Canny, age 50, of Oelwein on gathering where controlled substances unlawfully used, a Serious Misdemeanor.

Oelwein police are investigating a theft complaint. Police received a report of a theft at 2:15 p.m. on September 10, 2014 from the 100 block of 12th Ave SE. This incident remains under investigation.

September 10, 2014

On September 9, 2014 at 2:09 p.m., Oelwein Officers performed a traffic stop in the 200 block of 13th Ave NW in Oelwein. Officers cited and released Christopher James Jelinek, age 31, of Oelwein for Driving While License Under Suspension, a Simple Misdemeanor.

Oelwein police are investigating a criminal mischief complaint. Police received a report of a criminal mischief at 8:10 a.m. on September 9, 2014 from the 200 block of 4th St SW. This incident remains under investigation.

September 9, 2014

Oelwein Officers were called to the 2500 block of South Frederick Ave on September 9, 2014 at 1:00 a.m. Officers arrested Megan Elise Owens, age 21, of Oelwein on charges of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Violation of a Domestic Abuse No Contact Order, both Simple Misdemeanors.

September 8, 2014

On September 6, 2014 at 5:30 p.m., after an investigation, Oelwein Officers arrested Paul William Foxen, age 28 of Oelwein on 2 counts of Forgery: Credit Card Use, Aggravated Misdemeanors.

On September 7, 2014 at 1:30 p.m., Oelwein Officers were called to a driving complaint in the 200 block of 3rd Avenue SE in Oelwein. Officers arrested Jammie Allen Aldrich, age 27 of Oelwein on charges of Disorderly Conduct and Driving While License Suspended, both Simple Misdemeanors.

On September 7, 2014 at 3:20 p.m., Oelwein officers were called to a disturbance in the 700 block of 3rd Av SW in Oelwein. Officers arrested Ryan Edward Pedersen, age 23 of Oelwein, on charges of Driving While License Suspended and Disorderly Conduct, both Simple Misdemeanors and Criminal Mischief 4th Degree, a Serious Misdemeanor.

September 5, 2014

On September 5, 2014 at 10:18 p.m., Oelwein Police went to a house in the 400 block of 2nd Ave NE in search of a male subject who had a current warrant.  While searching the area the officers witnessed Matthew Allan Winter, 25, of Oelwein in possession of a controlled substance.  Winter was arrested for Possession of Controlled Substance – Marijuana a Serious Misdemeanor and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia a Simple Misdemeanor.

September 4, 2014

On September 4, 2014 at 12:15 a.m., Oelwein Officers performed a traffic stop at hwy 281 and Q Avenue in Oelwein. Officers cited and released Justin Lawrence Robinson, age 28, of Waterloo for Driving While License Under Suspension, a Simple Misdemeanor.
