At 12:22 am on May 19, 2012 Oelwein Police arrested Cameron Dean Smith, 18, of Oelwein. Smith was arrested on a charge of Possession of drug paraphernalia a Simple Misdemeanor and Possession of Controlled Substance Marijuana a Serious Misdemeanor. This arrest was made following a traffic stop in the area of Hwy 150 and 20th St SE.
At 10:23 pm on May 18, 2012 Oelwein Police arrested Chad Mitchell Nelson, 41, of Oelwein. Nelson was arrested on a Fayette County Warrant for the original charge of OWI 2nd in the 600 blk 3rd Ave SW.

Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident in the 700 blk North Frederick Ave at 5:12 pm on May 17, 2012. A red Chevrolet Lumina driven by Jonathon Eugene Cummings collided with White Freightliner driven by Clell Wilbur Howard. Initial estimates of damages were $5,000.00 to the vehicle driven by Cummings and $1,000.00 to the vehicle driven by Howard.

A white Chevrolet Impala driven by Wallace Ervin Friedly collided with White Ford Focus driven by Ruth Esther Smith. The Oelwein Police was assisted by Mercy Oelwein Ambulance and the Oelwein Fire Department.

On May 1, 2012 at 5:50 a.m., an Oelwein Officers responded to a report of an assault occurring at a residence in the 200 block of 6th Street SW in Oelwein. After an investigation, officers arrested Stephanie Lynn Hubert, age 30, of Waterloo, on charges of Assault Causing Injury, a Serious Misdemeanor and Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree, A Class D Felony. Also arrested and charged was Jeremiah Charles Grigg, age 31, Waterloo, for Assault Causing Injury, a Serious Misdemeanor.
